Grade 2 girls lose close match in tough conditions

Round 6 saw our A2 girls suffer a very disappointing 3 -2 defeat to Flagstaff Hill in appalling conditions  – strong wind, constant rainy squalls and chilly temperatures. Four of our players made it down the 18th but only one was victorious – so close again!

Louise Pike, at number 5, had an up and down match. Heading down 18 one down she could only manage a half to finish 1 down.

Sue Raggatt, at number 4, had fluctuating fortunes. She was 3 up after eight but lost five in a row to be 2 down after 13. Her caddy, Jill Gehling, helped her steady and she won four of the next five to finish 2 up – great job Sue.

Bec Hughes, at number 3, with her Dad Bryan again doing the honours on the bag, was up early, and despite a minor lapse of concentration in the middle of her round, finish strongly for a 4 and 3 win.

Sue Tuohy, at number 2, by her own admission, struggled today. She made it down 18 but lost 2 down.

Sam White had an enormous job today, against a former State player and very talented opponent. She was 3 down early but battled back magnificently to get to 1 up after 15. She was all square heading down 18 but her opponent put her 3rd shot, a chip, to centimeters. Sammy’s par putt just missed – she went 1 down.

Sadly, for the first time in a few years we will not be in the final. We have had 3 incredibly close losses, so near but not good enough.

Our last match next week is against Blackwood at Flagstaff Hill –  we plan to go out on a high.
