Glenelg member, Elysia Yap has taken out her second Women’s Vardon in a row, winning at Fleurieu Golf Club by a comfortable seven shots, one week after taking out The Vines Women’s Vardon by a total of eight shots.
Consecutive rounds of 74 (148 total) saw Yap hold off Rachel Taylor (Mt Osmond) and Kristalle Blum (Grange) who finished in second and third place respectively. Glenelg’s, Matilda Wheare finished in fifth place with rounds of 80, 84.
In the men’s event, Campbell Rawson again showed promise with consecutive rounds of 73 (146 total) placing him inside the top 10. Fellow Glenelg members, Josh Hayes (71, 79), Henry Duregon (72, 79) and John Noble (70, 81) all struggled in the afternoon after strong morning rounds, finishing inside the top 25. Matt Overall (74, 80) and Connor Chant (75, 80) were nowhere near their best and will be looking to improve before the Golf SA Classic around their home track in early April.
Will Starkey was Glenelg’s best performer in the Junior event with rounds of 72, 82 to place sixth, while Sam Raschella had rounds of 82, 81 to finish just outside the top 10.
