Dear Member,

Welcome to 2014.

As the New Year ticks along we have an exciting 12 months planned both on the golf and social front. Hopefully you found a way to survive Adelaide’s extreme heat and can now dedicate yourself to “the game for life!”

Despite last year being a cracker of a year generally, this year promises so much and should be another standout year.  Some “firsts” introduced last year will be continued. Night Golf is back and by popular demand so will there be another Concert.

Your COM has also been working hard on making it easier and more affordable for you to enjoy the benefits of membership and attract new members to our Club.  This year, like others, you will receive your subscription invoice and consider the contents, which inevitably will have a small increase.  We understand this will be a significant outlay.

For most of us, golf is a game of history, traditions and enjoyment and is facing significant challenges in modern society with competing recreational interests.  Our Club has 87 years of history and we are proud and passionate participants.  Most of us love the history, love our course, love our new clubhouse, love our new pro shop but most of all, we love the friendships we have garnered from our time at the Club.

Please consider this:

The Course

We are sure you would agree the course has never been in better condition. A course manicured and enjoyed by all no matter what handicap.  It is a world class course, now ranked 28th in Australia.

The Clubhouse, Friends and Community

As we have communicated previously, private golf clubs are changing and a club like ours needs to adapt and evolve. Looking down the fairway, we want our members to utilise our club amenities on a regular basis. Our future product offerings will include more variety in the shorter forms of the game and a greater emphasis on value to the member. These will include improved food and beverage service and a focus on excellence.

Our reciprocal list has been significantly bolstered by the recent inclusions of:

  • Woodlands in Melbourne (ranked 5 in Vic )

  • St. Michaels in Sydney (with one of the best views over the Sydney coastline)

  • Cruden Bay in Scotland (one of the finest links courses in the world)

  • Pacific Links Group – Exclusive access to over 40 world class superior golf courses in the Asia Pacific region as well as Hawaii and USA.

All of the above provide unprecedented value to any outbound travelling member.

Your “one membership ……….. provides more golf”!

2014/2015 Membership Fees

Balancing member value and service, affordability, debt reduction and capital expenditure requirements have always been a major focus.  The Committee of Management understands that while we work toward our goal of being the best all round golf club package in South Australia, we must remain affordable.

  • The overall increase to your membership subscription will be 5%.  The Infrastructure Levy will be maintained at $350 for Full members, and adjusted for all other membership categories.
  • The Catering Levy will increase to $375 (or $7.20/week) to encourage members to utilise the Club’s food and beverage facilities more often.  This levy is a credit available for use over a period of 12 months, with an additional 3 months for those renewing their membership each year.

Even with the increase, Glenelg remains more affordable than other major golf clubs in South Australia.

Distribution of Membership Invoices

Membership packs, including subscription notices, Annual Report and Members Handbook will be distributed in the first week of March.  It is our intention to distribute these to members electronically from this year unless otherwise advised.  Copies will be available to collect from the Administration Office or downloaded from the Club’s website.

If you would prefer to receive your membership pack in the mail, please advise the Administration Office on or before the 28th February 2014.

Quarterly Instalments

The Club will again offer a quarterly direct debit instalment plan to assist members with membership payment.  Further details will be provided with your membership package.

Other Membership Categories

Other categories of membership are available from Absentee to Weekday and Six Day.  Please refer to the website and our Membership Portfolio brochure for further details.  It is preferred that requests be received at the Administration Office on or before 28th February 2014 so your initial membership statement can reflect the appropriate changes.

The Bay Coterie Group

In addition and in another first, following is a link to a brochure for the new member driven initiative The Bay Coterie Group.  Managed by a small volunteer committee this is an opportunity for generous and passionate members to provide special project assistance to the Club. All contributions are tax deductible.

The 19th

In summary, we value your contribution and membership and hope our dedication to continuous improvement will ensure you retain your membership and, where possible, encourage other family, friends and business associates to join the Club we believe offers the best all round golf club package in this state.

In short, there is a category that will meet your needs, so do not hesitate to contact the Administration Office on 8295 3793 or via email at membership@glenelggolf.com and we will be happy to assist.

As a current member, I look forward to seeing you soon and being part of a massively fun year. Great to have you back and along for the ride at The Bay.

See you on the green.

Yours sincerely

Tony Martin
