Only 12 months after losing by the closest of margins, Campbell Rawson has claimed his first Glenelg Club Championship, in emphatic fashion, defeating David Hiern 5/4.
After a tight first 18 holes, the match sat in the balance with Rawson 1up. It took only 7 holes in the afternoon however for Rawson to well and truly put one hand on the trophy. Birdieing 5 of the first 7 holes saw Rawson move to 6 up through 25 holes and in a commanding position. Hiern fought hard winning the 28th and 30th holes but was running out of holes. As is typical at Glenelg, the match was played in great spirit and congratulations must go to both players for a high standard of golf.
In the Women’s Open Championship, Josie defeated mother, Jill, for the first time, clawing back from four down at the halfway mark, to win 3/2, holing a 35 footer on the 34th hole. No doubt there will be many tight family matches in the future.
