Rawson and Hodge qualify top of the tree

Keen to redeem himself after a narrow loss in last years Club Championship final, Campbell Rawson has got off to the best possible start, qualifying first and taking out the RF Stevens Trophy.

With an impressive morning round of two under par 69, Rawson stumbled early in the afternoon but fought back hard to finish with a 74 and finish six shots ahead of the highly experienced Andrew Grzybowski. Matt Overall finished in third after recovering with a fantastic 69 in the afternoon, following a disappointing 81 in the morning. Lachlan Booth finished off strong with 73 in the afternoon to finish in fourth spot, while Connor Chant impressed with rounds of 75, 77 to finish in fifth.

One of the biggest shocks came from Brian Welsh, shooting a 74 in the tougher afternoon conditions following his 81 in the morning, to finish sixth. Mr. Reliable, Leigh Attenborough was always going to be around the mark and with rounds of 76, 79, finished in seventh spot. Anthony Olsen rounded out the eight, battling to a 77 in the afternoon following a disappointing 80 in the morning and will be looking to improve next weekend.

Dave Hiern and Sam Raschella finished in ninth and tenth place, and will qualify for the match play with Andrew Grzybowski and Connor Chant unable to play in the matchplay rounds.

It was a family affair in the Women’s Open Championship qualifying, with Jill Hodge qualifying first, ahead of daughter Josie. Jill’s scores of 82 and 81 left here 13 shots ahead of the field, with Josie Hodge shooting round of 80, 90. Samantha White finished in third, shooting 88, 89, ahead of Sarah Griffiths in the final qualifying spot with rounds of 89, 91.
