Round 8 | 6th April
Location: The Vines vs Royal Adelaide

No. 1 Kade Bryant def Josh Grundel 2/1

No. 2 Jack Leonard def Will Arnold 2/1

No. 3 Josh Hayes halved with Billy Cawthorne

No. 4 Michael Munn lost to Alex Pacifico 3/2

No. 5 Zac Bray def Matt Lawson 2/1

No. 6 Mick Phillips def Michael Richardson 2/1

No. 7 Nick Wake lost to Nathan Kent 1 down

At the end of the minor round we finished 2nd and Royal Adelaide were 3rd.  Royal had the better of us in our match back in round four.  However that was at RA and today’s semi-final was on neutral territory so we went into the match confident that we could match it with them.  To no one’s surprise the match was close all day.  At the turn we had our nose in front and then we pulled away slightly.  However, things tightened up in the final few holes before we steadied and achieved the 4 wins we needed to progress to the final next week.

At no. 7 Nick Wake was playing former professional Nathan Kent.  In a match where Nick was square or 1 down for most of the day he was just not able to get his nose in front.  The match was square after 14 and Nick then went 1 down through 15.  The last 3 holes were halved but Nick almost snatched a half when his birdie putt on the last just slipped past the hole.

Mick Phillips got off to a solid start in his match to be 1 up thru six holes.  However he quickly found himself 1 down with losses on the next two holes.  He then went on a run winning 4 of the next 5 holes to go 3 up which was still the margin after 15.  He lost 16 but halved 17 to get our first point of the day.

Zac Bray had an excellent day with Adam Bland on the bag.  He got off to a hot start to be 4 up after 7 holes and then 5 up after 10.  He was still 4 up after 14 but then things got a little tight with losses on 15 and 16 before he was able to seal the win with a solid par on the 17th.  This was a really good bounce-back effort from Zac coming off a disappointing loss last week.

Playing at no. 4 Michael Munn got off to the worst possible start to be 5 down after only 6 holes. However with his typical never say die attitude he found a way to get back into the match.  After 11 holes he had dragged the margin back to just one hole and it looked to be game on!  However it was not to be as that was as close as he got going 2 down thru 13 before the match finished on 16.

Josh Hayes had the benefit of Jack Buchanan carrying his bag and he was involved in a high quality match with Billy Cawthorne.  He went 1 down early but quickly recovered to square things up on the 6th.  The match was still square after 13 before Josh took the lead back on 15.  Billy won 16 before Josh won 17 with an excellent birdie and he went down the last 1 up.  Both players were a little right off the 18th tee but hit good recovery shots with Josh on the green and Billy just short.  Josh had a lengthy putt and was first away.  His putt came up a little short before Billy chipped to tap in range.  Josh missed his putt and the players headed up the 19th.  However after they struck their tee shots word came through that we had won the top two matches giving us the 4 points we needed and so Josh’s match was halved.

In the no. 2 position Jack Leonard played excellent golf all day and although he went one down early he quickly found his feet to win the third hole and he was never headed after that.  He was 3 up through 10 and held that margin to the 15th.  There was a bit of a blip on the 16th with a missed short putt but he went on to close out the match when the 17th was halved.  Unfortunately we will be without Jack for the final as he will be in Brisbane playing in the Australian Junior Amateur and the Junior Interstate Series.

At no. 1 Kade Bryant was up against fellow young gun Josh Grundel.  Kade birdied the first two holes to be 1 up after Josh chipped in for his own birdie on two.  Kade then won 2 of the next 3 holes to go 3 up after the fifth and he remained 3 up at the turn.  However Josh chipped away at the lead on the back nine and Kade’s margin was reduced to just 1 hole after 15.  Kade then won 16 with a birdie and with the 17th halved the match was all over and it was also the final point we needed to win overall.

Thanks to the caddies and supporters who came out to support us again.  The players really do appreciate your support.

A great result for us on the day that we debuted our new Team Glenelg golf bags!  So next Sunday it’s on to the final against Grange at Royal Adelaide from 9.15 am.  Whilst we will be without Jack Leonard, Grange will be without one of their players who is also in the state junior team.  Our Sanderson and Pike Cup ladies teams will also be playing in their finals at Royal Adelaide so it’s a great opportunity to get down there and support our teams as we play for the silverware.

Round 6 | 6th April
Location: The Grange | vs Royal Adelaide

Match won by Glenelg 3 1/2 to 1 1/2

Jill Hodge lost to Sophie Hilditch 5/4

Zoe Manton defeated Laura Birchmore 2/1

Maiya Jakupec halved with Eliza Bartlett

Bec Hardy defeated Fiona Morrison 4/3

Grace Ferrier defeated Kat De Silva 3/1

Perfect golf conditions greeted us for the semi final against Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

Grace continued her strong form. She was up early in her match and never lost her lead despite some good golf from her opponent. Grace has played outstanding golf in her first Sanderson Cup season and we will miss her greatly next week. We wish her all the very best for the State Juniors.

The ever reliable Bec also went up early in her match being 5 up after 8 holes. She played great golf from there on to have a convincing win of 4/3.

Maiya had a very tight match. The most she was ever down was by one and the girls went down the last hole at square and finished the match that way. Well done Maiya.

Zoe also had a match that could have gone either way. Both girls played fabulous golf , the match being square through 15. Zoe then won the 16th and sunk a beautiful 20 foot putt for birdie on the 17th hole to win her game and seal the win for Glenelg.

Jill once again gave her all but unfortunately her opponent was too good on the day with Jill losing 5/4.

Many thanks to the spectators who came out, your support is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to the caddies – Cathy, Nick, Victor, Nat and Hayden. Your support of this team has been fabulous.

The final on Sunday 13th April is against Kooyonga at Royal Adelaide Golf Club. Tee off time is 10:15. Good luck to all of the Glenelg Pennant Teams on Sunday.

Round 8 | 6th April
Location: Kooyonga | vs Royal Adelaide

The Bonnar group finished 3rd after the home and away matches this year and competed in the 1st semi-final on Sunday, taking on 2nd placed and defending 2024 champions, Royal Adelaide at a beautifully presented Kooyonga.

RA had defeated us in the 1st round at home this year and in last year’s knock-out semi-final and we were keen for some revenge.

Both teams contained a blend of up and coming golfers and more experienced competitors and a high standard of golf was expected and delivered.

In the No. 7 match Kyle Feltus competed hard but eventually went down 4&3.

Ben Winton battled hard all day in the No. 6 match, called on all his experience and returned our first win on the 17th 2&1 up.

Matt Jacquier did not have the start he wanted and was 4 down early in the No.5 match and turned 3 down. In an invaluable turn around on the back 9, Matt’s never say die attitude delivered some great irons and putting to claw back to even and eventually win his match 1up on the 18th – a win for the ages.

That had us 2 matches to 1 with the last 4 games evenly balanced.

Harry Edwards, in the No.4 match, played well throughout but without luck early and eventually went down 2&1 in a high quality affair.

That’s now 2 matches each.

David Brand, playing the No.3 match, had a real battle on his hands all day against an experienced opponent playing well. They finished the 18th all square and headed off to the 1st (19th) to continue the battle.

The No. 2 match pitted Will Starkey against a very experienced opponent and in a great display Will delivered a critical victory finishing on the 15th 4&3 up. This match was one of the season highlights. Will completed 6 birdies in his 15 holes sinking an estimated 220’ of putts. A great performance and, importantly, our 3rd match in.

In another great encounter, Simon Gallie took RA’s (now) Anthony Olsen to the 18th in the No.1 match to eventually fall to a 3metre putt sealing the game for RA 2 up.

That’s now 3 matches a piece and all eyes turned to the No.3 match now in extra holes.

Halving the 19th, the match had moved to the par 5 20th and RA had the advantage after the drives. David then produced a great 1 wood ‘off the deck’ to be bunkered green side. His opponent returned the favour to also be bunkered after his 2nd. A nice bunker shot from David then setup a 2 putt victory and seal the win for The Bay.

A great day of golf from both teams going right to the wire!! A hard earned victory for our boys that see us march into next week’s GF at home v. The Grange. We will take a great deal of belief and momentum into this match and look forward to another great battle and to delivering the Bonnar Cup back to The Bay.

Thanks as always to the caddies who really help out every week and contribute to our great results – Keith Barnard, Dave Rosie, Steve Jacquier, Leanne Edwards (including the manager quiches), Alex Manton, Blake Wilby and Darryn Conway. Thanks also to Ruth Martin for the sausage rolls & rocky road.

We now turn our attention to next week’s GF and wish all other Glenelg teams the best of luck in their matches next week too.

We hit off at 7:30 at home next Sunday and encourage any interested members to come out and support the Bonnar boys at home. We can assure you of an exciting few hours.

Round 6 | 6th April
Location: Kooyonga | vs Mid North

Daylight saving muddled everyone! But our Pikies were there to bring the bacon home!  It was a clear and bright Sunday morning at Kooyonga. Perfect golfing weather.

Match highlights:

No 1 player: Sarah Crocker arrived with her bounty of biscuits for all of us. Thank you, Sarah!  I shouldn’t just mention her baking, because her golf was exceptional. She won convincingly 8 & 6.

No 2 player: Bec Hughes was thoughtful and focused. Bec had a comprehensive win of 6 & 5, placing her approach shots with precision and accuracy.

No 3 player: Tonia Ross again, was at her best. Tonia’s win of 5 & 4 was measured and precise which frustrated her opponent no end!

With a resounding 3 games out of 5 games won, I would like to mention at this point, both Lou and Sam were not required to finish their games.

However,

No 4 player: Lou Pike was so focused. She was able to push her opponent to the 17th and was looking to close the match off.  Lou squared her match.

No 5 player: Sam White turned her match around at the ninth, and only just lost on the same 17th 4 and 2.

Our Caddies, Ruth, Cath, Annabel, Nick and Hanna were there to help our players do their finest shots, to guarantee to not only provide comprehensive support, but put our beloved Pikies in the position of a contender to win the Grand Final. Thank you so much.

I would also like to thank Wendy Vaughan our reserve for this morning. All our reserves have done an amazing job over the course of the matches, supporting and backing up the players, where they were ready and willing to step up if required.

The Mid North Team were able to push our girls, however, ‘Our Pikies’ were on fire. Congratulations ladies, you deserve to be in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final begins next Sunday 13th April at 8:30am at Royal Adelaide, where we are to play Kooyonga. We would love to see as many as possible of you to support us!!

Sarah’s Biscuits – Yum!!!!

Go Pikies!

Round 8 | 7th April – FINALS
Location: Aston Hills | vs The Vines

We had an early start for our big final against the Vines at Aston Hills in Mount Barker. We knew going in that it was going to be a tough one—the Vines hadn’t lost a match all season and were playing on a course that suited them.

The nerves were definitely there as we teed off, and things didn’t start in our favour. Most of our matches were down early, and then their number one player scored a hole-in-one on the second hole—right after Jo Ricourt had hit her shot within six feet. Talk about a momentum killer! With that, the Vines were up and about, leading all five matches at the turn.

They kept the pressure on early in the back nine. Jackie Burke (#4) and Sue Raggatt (#3) battled hard but came up against some seriously solid opponents, going down on the 12th and 14th holes. At that point, it wasn’t looking good—Jo Rawson (#2) was 4 down after 12, Jo Ricourt (#1) was 3 down after 10, and Fiona Eblen (#5) was making a gutsy comeback, squaring things up by the 16th after being 3 down earlier. It looked like we might be heading for an early lunch, but the girls had other ideas.

Fiona kept fighting and was just 1 down going down the 18th after a hiccup on 17. A bit of luck came her way when her opponent hit into the water and missed a short putt, pushing the match into extra holes. Meanwhile, Jo Rawson found another gear—she was still 3 down after 15, but pulled off a brilliant up-and-down from the bunker on 16, followed by clutch play on 17, to be only 1 down going down 18. At the same time, Fiona was still going toe-to-toe with her opponent in their second lap of the course. We thought it might be all over, but suddenly there was a flicker of hope!

Jo Ricourt was holding steady, keeping her match tight and halving hole after hole. We found ourselves in a position where we just needed a couple of breaks to go our way. Jo Rawson was set up to win 18, Fiona was still hanging in there deep into extra holes, and Jo Ricourt was 1 down playing 17. Both Jo and her opponent landed on the green with the same number of shots, but Jo had a tricky downhill putt and just missed. That gave her opponent the chance to finish it—and she did.

It was a heartbreaker, especially with how close we were to turning the match around. A few more holes and who knows?

Even though we didn’t get the win, I couldn’t be prouder of how the team fought. The comeback, the grit, the way everyone dug deep—it was awesome to watch. We didn’t bring home the medal this time, but we gave it everything. Bring on 2026—we’ll be ready to go one better!

Thank you again to all our wonderful caddies and to everyone that came out to support the team!
