No. 1 Kade Bryant def Sam Earl 1 up

No. 2 Jack Leonard lost to Ben Pearce 1 down

No. 3 Josh Hayes def Charlie Nobbs 1 up

No. 4 Michael Munn def Alex Germano 2/1

No. 7 Nick Wake halved with Chris Burns.

Coming into the final minor round match The Vines were in 5th place on the ladder and their only hope was to defeat us by at least 6 – 1 in order to advance to the finals at our expense.  For us the opportunity was to win and perhaps move up to second on the ladder.  The match was agonisingly close all day and around the turn we were certainly on the back foot.  However our players stood up over the last few holes where 5 matches went to the 18th hole and one to the 17th. Fortunately we were able to pick up 4 wins and a half from those 6 matches to seal the victory.

In the top match, arguably the top 2 players in the state were involved with Kade Bryant up against Sam Earl.  Sam got the better of Kade in last year’s match but Kade was able to turn the tables on him this year.  It was a high quality affair with the margin never more than 1 hole.  Kade birdied the par 5 16th to take a 1 hole lead.  The final two holes were halved with solid pars.

Jack Leonard got off to an unusually slow start to find himself 3 down after 5 holes.  However he knuckled down and got back to 1 down at the turn.  Wins on 12 and 13 took him to 1 up before an inexplicable lost ball off the tee on 15 (I saw it land in a fairway bunker!) resulted in a lost hole.  He won 17 to get back to square going down the par 5 last.  Jack was best placed after two but his third missed the green and he was unable to get it up and down.  Meanwhile his opponent was in real trouble after his second in the woods to the right.  He was then laying 4 just off the back edge of the green but managed to hole the 20 foot putt to take the win!

At no. 3 Josh Hayes’ match against Charlie Nobbs was also close all day but Josh found himself 2 down after 11 with work to do.  He erased the deficit to square the match thru 14 which was still the margin after 17.   Heading up the last Josh was safely on the green in regulation but Charlie had his troubles and was playing his 5th from the bunker.  Josh safely two putted to win the hole and the match.

Michael Munn got off to a solid start to be two up on the long hitting Alex Germano after 5 holes.  Alex fought back to square the match at the turn before Michael pulled away again early on the back nine reaching 4 up after the 13th.  However Alex fought back again and going down the long 17th Michael was just one up.  However, a magnificent chip in birdie gave Michael a valuable 2/1 win.

Zac Bray got off to a shaky start to be 2 down early but he steadied the ship to get back to square after the 5th.  However that was as close as it got as Tony Nobbs played solid golf to pull away over the next few holes going on to record a comfortable win over Zac.

At no. 6 Mick Phillips got off to a quick start winning his first 3 holes.  He then lost the next two holes and reached the turn 1 up.  He got to 2 up after the 15th and looked to have the match in his keeping but he lost the next two holes to go to the 18th tee all square.  Mick hit a stunning third shot into the green leaving a short putt for birdie whilst his opponent was over the back of the green in three.  His fourth shot just reached the green and his par putt missed.  Mick duly made his birdie putt to seal a great win under pressure.

Nick Wake was up against fellow veteran Chris Burns.  Nick held sway for most of the day being 2 up after 9 and still 2 up after 15.  Chris won the next two holes to square the match with one hole to play.  Both players were well placed after two shots on the par 5 18th.  Nick’s approach missed the green left and Chris hit a great shot past the hole with a good look at birdie.  Nick then played a sensational ‘scrape’ shot to tap in range to seal his par.  Chris then left his birdie putt a little short and the match was halved.

Thanks to the caddies and supporters who came out to support us on another stunning autumn day.

The win takes us up to second on the ladder with a 5 – 2 record meaning we will play Royal Adelaide in the semi-final at The Vines next Sunday from 7.55 am.  The undefeated Kooyonga will play Grange in the other semi.

Round 5 | 30th March
Location: Blackwood | vs Blackwood

Glenelg defeated Blackwood 4 – 1

Jill Hodge defeated Marnie Masters 5/4

Zoe Manton defeated Hannah Custance 3/2

Maiya Jakupec defeated Gale MacPherson 2/1

Bec Hardy lost to Angela Masters 1 down

Grace Ferrier defeated Zoe Bennett 1 up

Blackwood greeted us with very cold and blustery conditions at 0730 Sunday morning and it remained that way for most of the day.

Playing at number 5 Grace lost the first hole and after winning the second was never down in her match. She didn’t have the best day on the Blackwood greens but still came away with a good win.

Bec had a very tight match with her opponent. Bec was 2 down through 14, managed to get back to 1 down after 17 but unfortunately could only square 18 to lose 1 down. Bad luck Bec.

Maiya played strong solid golf all day. She was square through 14 then won 15 and 16 to go 2 up, finishing on 17 – it was a great day out for Maiya.

Zoe also found form in the challenging conditions. She played good positive golf, finishing on 16 with a solid 3/2 victory. Well done Zoe.

Jill continued with her stellar form. Her consistent ball striking and solid short game proved too much for her opponent. Jill finished with a 5/4 win.

Many thanks to the caddies for braving the elements to support their players. This week you were looking for hand warmers not sun umbrellas. Cathy, Nick, Victor Nat and Hayden your support of the girls is fantastic.

We have made the semi finals and next Sunday play Royal Adelaide at the Grange. Tee off time is 1115. Good luck girls.

Round 7 | 30th March
Location: Tea Tree Gully | vs Kooyonga

Round 7 for the Sharp Cup Team saw us take on Kooyonga at Tea Tree Gully bright and early.  The cold and windy conditions at the start was a first for the season and gave way to some much appreciated warmth towards the end of the matches.  Knowing we needed a win to possibly make the finals, the team did not disappoint earning a 3.5 to 1.5 win. Unfortunately it wasnt quite enough as Country Districts then won against Tea Tree Gully on their home turf to just pip us out of the finals.

Starting on the back 9, in our 5th spot teeing off first was Zak Goers, who once again made steady headway against his opponent, Abe Winskill, winning the first 6 holes straight before trading holes back and forth. Eventually he won the game 6 up with 4 to play.  This has been Zak’s first year playing in the Sharp Cup and he has been a solid asset to the team remaining undefeated.  On the 13th hole Zak’s best shot was from 80m out, under a tree on the right side of the fairway where he hit an 8 iron in to the green, hitting the pin and finishing 3 inches from the hole winning that hole.

Next to tee off in the 4th spot was Ava Strazdins playing against Liam Wang.  After squaring the first hole Ava then won the next 5 holes in a row.  This match was also a close one going back and forth until securing the win up 5 with 3 to play.  This was also Ava’s first year in the Sharp Cup Team proving to be a valuable player with 1 win and 1 very close loss on the last hole.  Ava’s best shot was a wedge from 80m out on the 6th finishing 8 foot from the pin then going on to win the hole.

Next up was Cooper Lessue in the 3rd spot playing Henry Owler.  Cooper has played some superb golf this year and has been a staple fixture for the team.  Unfortunately this would not be Coopers best day of golf, but to his credit he had a smile on his face all day and kept his determination up even when faced with being down 7 with 8 to play.  Cooper rallied and stayed in the match winning the next 3 holes followed by a square, however was overcome in the end finishing 5 down with 3 to play. Coopers best shot of the day was driving the green on the 2nd finishing 10 foot from the pin going on to win the hole.

In the 2nd spot was our other staple fixture of the team, Indie Danger, playing against  Tammy Twiss.  After losing the first hole Indie steadily made his way to be up 4 at the turn before trading a few holes, going on to seal the win up 5 with 4 to play.  Indie has played some fantastic golf this year and is an asset to the team.  Just talking with Indie you can tell he really understands the game of golf and the experience and knowledge he has of the courses is an asset he brings to the team. He said his best shot this week was his 250m drive on the 17th into the wind.

Last to tee off was Kyle Feltus playing against Charlie Mosley this week.  Kyle hits a very long ball, and with the wind in play, found a lot of time in the trees this week.  That didn’t seem to matter much in the start as he made his way to up 3 after 4 holes, however by the turn the game was back to all square.  Dropping to 2 down another 5 holes in, Kyle rallied with the rest of the team walking with him and brought it back to all square on the 8th going in to the last hole of the day.  Kyle’s wedge shot on the last hole was the best shot of the day finishing around a foot from the pin sinking the putt to halve the hole ending in a squared match.  Kyle played 3 games for The Sharp Cup Team this year, usually playing in the Bonner Cup Team, and finished with 2 wins and a halve for the season.  His dedication to travel from Streaky Bay each week is truly commendable.

It has been an honour to Manage the team this year, a first for me, taking over for Jason Stone early in the season.  Getting to know the players and their parents, watching some truly amazing golf, and navigating the highs and lows of the season has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to doing so again.

We had a few first timers play though out the season coming up from div 2 showing the teams future is in good hands.  We were so close to securing a final spot this year and everyone who played in the team should all be very proud of themselves for their effort, dedication, etiquette, comeraderie and maturity displayed each and every week.

Many thanks must also go to all the parents/caddies this year.  You have all shown tremendous support and commitment and I am sure the players are very thankful and appreciate all that you do for them.

Until next Pennants season, happy hitting!!

Round 7 | 30th March
Location: Tea Tree Gully | vs Kooyonga

Round 7 Showdown at Tea Tree Gully – A Battle of Heart, Grit, and Growth

The stage was set for an epic finale at Tea Tree Gully as our Junior Division 2 team faced off against the formidable Kooyonga Golf Club in Round 7—our final and most crucial match of the season. With a semi-final berth on the line, the pressure was high and the stakes even higher.

Despite the early tee time and a brisk, chilly morning, our team teed off from the 10th hole with determination in their hearts and fire in their eyes. Each player knew what was on the line—and they rose to meet the moment with everything they had.

In the No. 5 spot, Damia Muadz took on Ava Giles in what turned into a nail-biting encounter. After falling behind in the opening holes, Damia refused to let the pressure shake her. With fierce resilience, she clawed her way back to all square by hole 6, turning the match into a back-and-forth battle. Though narrowly defeated 4/2 on the 17th hole, Damia’s unwavering spirit and refusal to give up embodied the heart of a true competitor.

At No. 4, Ethan Collette faced Max Webber. A slow start didn’t stop him—instead, it sparked a comeback built on focus, composure, and inner strength. By the fifth hole, Ethan had found his rhythm. Although the scoreboard read 5/4 in the end, his mental toughness and refusal to fold were a proud display of his growth as a player and a competitor.

Captain Ben Yin took on the experienced Daniel Wang in what proved to be a rollercoaster of a match. Every hole brought a new challenge, and Ben faced each with courage and intensity. Though the match concluded on the 13th with a 5/4 result, Ben’s leadership shone bright. He inspired the team not only with his game but with his relentless drive and never-say-die attitude.

Gareth Thien brought his solid form into the No. 2 match against Nate Leske. After building a lead by the 8th hole through calm focus and strategic play, Gareth looked in control. But as the pressure mounted, Nate found another gear and edged Gareth out 5/4. Despite the result, Gareth’s poise under pressure was commendable, and his potential is undeniable.

In the No. 1 spot, Levi Ashton stepped up like a seasoned warrior. From the very first tee, Levi meant business. With precision and control, he led from start to finish and secured a commanding 5/4 win over Jordy Brown. His determination to bring home the point for the team was nothing short of inspiring. Levi set the tone—and set the bar.

More Than a Match – A Team to Be Proud Of

Though the scorecard didn’t swing in our favour this time, what we saw out on the course was far more valuable than a win—it was resilience, character, and the emergence of a team that’s growing stronger by the round.

To our incredible parents, dedicated coaches, and the Glenelg Golf Club—thank you. Your unwavering support fuels our journey and lifts these young athletes every step of the way. We may not have made the semi-finals this year, but this isn’t the end of our story. It’s only the beginning. The lessons learned, the battles fought, and the fire that’s been lit—this team is building something special. I’m so proud of this Team!!!

Round 5 | 30th March
Location: Mid North | vs Mid North

Result: Glenelg 2 ½ – 2 ½ Mid North – match squared.

We were extremely fortunate to have a beautiful sunny, Sunday morning at Sandy Creek.

Although the fairways and greens were green and lush in parts, the local rule included preferred lies, and considering the current drought conditions across the state, the presentation of the course, is a credit to the Club.

Match highlights:

No 1 player: Sarah Crocker took her game to the 18th where her match was squared. Sarah played solid golf, a match where she and her opponent were well paired to the end.

No 2 player: Bec Hughes unfortunately lost her match 4 and 3. She showed persistence and tenacity and her golf was to be commended.

No 3 player: Tonia Ross was solid and focused, ensuring a strong win of 8 up 6 to play. Tonia played pure golf, a treat to watch.

No 4 player: Lou Pike decided to take the match to the 18th, where she sunk a mighty putt to win 1 up, delighting all of us on the final hole!

No 5 player: Sam White lost 2 and 1 where her precision was contested as her opponent took control.

Again, our caddies Ruth, Cath, Jo Rawson, Nick and Hanna, assisted our team to play their best shots. Thank you, the players couldn’t do it without you!!

The Mid North team pulled out all stops to ensure we were given true hospitality, and our Pikies were all challenged and tested on their home course.

I would like to congratulate the team for placing themselves 1st on the ladder going into the finals. No mean feat.

The Semi Finals begin next Sunday 6th April where we again play Mid North however this time at Kooyonga at 7:30am.

Go Pikies!

Round 7 | 31st March
Location: West Lakes | vs Royal Adelaide

A crisp morning at West Lakes set the stage for the final minor round match of the A3 pennant season. With a place in next week’s final already secured, our team took on Royal Adelaide, who were determined to finish their season on a high.

Once again, Jackie Burke and Sue Raggatt delivered standout performances, both securing solid wins. However, it was a challenging day for our other players, leading to a narrow 3-2 team loss.

Match Results:

Jackie Burke (#5) – Won 3/1
Jackie put in another strong performance, playing steady golf throughout. A solid finish on the 16th and 17th holes sealed her 3 & 1 victory.

Fiona Eblen (#4) – Lost 1 down
Fiona showed great resilience, fighting back from 3 down after 12 holes and 2 down after 15. Wins on the 16th and 17th brought the match back to all square heading down the 18th. Unfortunately, a tricky greenside bunker shot proved costly, and Fiona lost the hole and the match 1 down.

Sue Raggatt (#3) – Won 4/3
Sue was in fine form once again, controlling the match from the outset. Playing consistently strong golf, she comfortably closed it out on the 15th with a 4 & 3 victory.

Jo Rawson (#2) – Lost 4/3
Jo started steadily and was just one down after nine holes. However, her opponent capitalised on some lucky breaks and played strong golf, winning three consecutive holes. Finding herself 4 down after 12, Jo faced an uphill battle and was ultimately defeated on the 15th, 4 & 3.

Jo Ricourt (#1) – Lost 4/3
Jo had a tough day, struggling with her driver while facing an opponent who barely missed a fairway and putted exceptionally well. Despite being behind for most of the match, Jo fought back in the middle holes, but her opponent proved too strong, closing out the match on the 15th.

Despite today’s result, the team remains focused and excited for next week’s final against The Vines at Aston Hills.

A huge thank you to our caddies—Lou, Nick, Cathy, Wendy, and Jill—for their usual support, and to Kathryn, Helen, and Cathy for coming out to cheer on the team!

Round 5 | 31st March
Location: Flagstaff Hill | vs North Adelaide

Result- North Adelaide 3.5- Glenelg 1.5

Glenelg played its final minor round game, with much determination and spirit, but sadly lost to a very seasoned North Adelaide team. The morning was chilly, but the playing conditions were good and the very pretty hills course threw up its challenges to all.

Match results

  • Lisa Harvey finished her season with another commanding win 4/3. Lisa and her trusty caddy, Francis Macpherson, proved to be an unbeatable combination, yet again.
  • Annabel Hamilton was able to square her match. Whilst Annabel did not secure any wins this season, she also didn’t suffer any losses. She was well supported by her caddy Tonia Ross.
  • Sally Sechser unfortunately was un able to win on Monday, but played in her usual determined fashion and was well supported by her caddy Lynne Rainey.
  • Karin Harris suffered her first loss of the season, but never gave up and battled to the end.
  • Jo McCarthy was also unable to secure a win, but certainly played a very competitive match. Joanie Connell, as her caddy was able to keep her well in the match.

Congratulations to the team for their excellent sportsmanship and tenacious match play.

It has been a great season and the entire team should be very proud of their efforts.
