Location: Thaxted Park | vs Southern
Glenelg 5 def Southern 2
No. 1 Kade Bryant def Phil Chapman 8/6
No. 2 Jack Leonard def Simon Connelly 2/1
No. 3 Josh Hayes def Ben Leske 5/3
No. 4 Michael Munn halved with Jake Munn
No. 5 Nick Wake lost to Cooper Hoppo 1 down
No. 6 Mick Phillips halved with Elliot Willgoose
No. 7 David Brand def Tim Jenkin 5/4.
Southern won the A2 pennant last year to earn promotion into the Simpson Cup this year. However their cause wasn’t helped when Willunga, who were one of their feeder clubs, decided to enter a team into A2. They have had a tough start to their season with 2 losses but were competitive in many individual matches. So they weren’t to be taken lightly and we were pleased to be able to achieve a comfortable 5 – 2 win.
At no. 1 Kade Brant flew out of the blocks starting with 3 straight birdies against veteran former professional Phil Chapman. Kade went on to record 7 birdies by the time that match was concluded on the 12th hole! Just the form he needs as he heads to Melbourne this week for the Riversdale Cup.
Jack Leonard continued on his winning way with a solid 2/1 victory. The match was always close but Jack never surrendered the lead. He has won all 3 of the matches this season.
Josh Hayes got out to an early 2 up lead and then on the back nine he quickly pulled away for a 5/3 win. Josh also has 3 straight wins to start the season.
Michael Munn was in a tight battle all day. The score fluctuated between 1 up and 1 down. He won 16 to get back to square with the last 2 holes halved.
Nick Wake had a tough match on his hands. He was one down early but hanging in there before slipping to 3 down after 12 holes. He then won 3 straight holes to get back to square before a loss on 16 and two halves on the last two holes sealed his fate at 1 down.
At no. 6 Mick Phillips got off to a good start to be 2 up through 4 holes but his opponent slowly got back on terms taking the lead on the 13th hole. Mick won the next getting back to square and that was the score when the match finished.
David Brand came into the team this week replacing Matt Jacquier who was unavailable. It was David’s first Simpson Cup match since 2010 and he made the most of the opportunity. He was one down early but then won 4 holes in a row to take a 3 up lead after the 8th hole. By the 13th the margin was out to 5 holes with a half on the 14th sealing his 5/4 win.
So after three rounds this is the pennant table:

Thanks to the caddies and supporters. A big thank you to our pennant sponsors Bradley Trade Services, Chess Moving and Vault Mobile Self Storage.
This week we take on Royal Adelaide at Royal from 7.30 am off the first tee (yes we are playing on the long weekend!). Royal are undefeated after 3 rounds so this is big opportunity for us to stay in touch with the leaders.
Sanderson Cup
Round 1 | 2nd March
Location: Kooyonga | vs Royal Adelaide
Jill Hodge lost to Reagan Denton 2/1
Zoe Manton lost to Alice Cho 2/1
Sarah Crocker lost to Sophie Hilditch 5/3
Maiya Jakupec lost to Laura Birchmore 1 down
Bec hardy defeated Eliza Bartlett 4/2
It wasn’t the start to the season we were hoping for losing to Royal adelaide 4/1.
Playing at number 5 Bec Hardy played her usual solid, tenacious golf. Bec was 1 up through 13 to finish strongly winning 4/2. Well done Bec.
Maiya Playing at number 4 was 2 up early in her match but at the turn was 2 down. She then won the next 2 holes to get back to square. It was a very tight tussle and unfortunately a wayward drive on 18 put Maiya in trouble and she lost 1 down. It was a very tight match and could have gone either way.
Sarah Crocker despite some good ball striking didn’t have her best day. She had some trouble on the greens and unfortunately lost 5/3.
Zoe Manton was up early but after her opponent birdied the 7th and 8th hole it became a very even match. Both players played good golf with Alice being on top at the end.
Jill Hodge playing at number 1 against Reagan Denton continued her strong form in a very tough match against RA’s number one player. Jill was 3 down after 11 however managed to get back to 1 down after 14. Again it was a match that could have gone either way with Jill losing on 17th 2/1.
Many thanks to the caddies. Cathy Johnson, Nick Manton, Ruth Martin, Victor Jakupec and Nat Hardy. Your support is much appreciated. Thanks also to the supporters who took the time to come out and watch.
Good luck to all players for next Sunday when we play Kooyonga at RAGC.
Junior Sharp Cup
Round 3 | 2nd March
Location: Royal Adelaide | vs Country Districts
This week saw the Sharp Cup Team duel it out with Combined Country at Kooyonga for the 3rd match of the season. All the matches were close games with almost all players being up and down at some point.
First game to finish was Indie Danger vs Oliver Brock playing in the 1st match. After losing the first hole, Indie quickly bounced back and slowly gained a steady lead throughout the match ending in a 5/4 win. Indie said his best shot was the putt he made on the 14th for birdie to secure the win.
The next game to finish was Mia Chinner vs Darcy Bald in the 5th match. On the front 9 Darcy gained a 2 up lead over Mia which she then pegged back to square at half time. Mia then gained the lead 2 up only to be back to square again at the end of the 13th. Coming down the 17th she was all smiles at 2 up hoping to get it over the line, which she did in style for a 3/1 win. Mia’s best play of the day was her pitch from 50 out onto the 17th green from the left edge rough on an uphill lie to 4 foot. She then made the putt look easy for the win. Might I add that at just 10 years old, this was Mia’s first foray into the Sharp Cup and I was so proud of her persistence, top effort!!
Following closely on Mia’s heels was Zack Goers vs Paul Efthimiou in the 4th match. Zack also nailed a 3/1 win on the 17th for our team to secure the overall win for the day. This game was in the plus side almost all day, only getting back down to square on the 9th through 12th and then the winning continued from the 13th onwards. Zack said his best shot was a chip-in on the 3rd to win the hole. Solid game, well done!
Dail Botha vs Bejay Thomas playing in the 3rd match was the next game to finish. Dail took an early lead to 2 up however by half way the match was sitting 3 down. Dail fought hard and got the deficit back to only 1 down at the 12th and was in good spirits holding it steady for a few holes. Unfortunately in the end the game finished with a 3/1 loss on the 16th hole. A valiant effort indeed. Dail had a fantastic shot on the 7th where he chipped the ball to 1 foot that was his best shot of the day.
The last game still playing at this point was Cooper Lessue vs Blake Schroder in the 2nd match. Cooper was up 1, then down 2, then promptly back to up 1 by the mid way point. From there on out Cooper held the lead until getting back to square going into the last hole. As the team followed him down the 18th backing him up, he made his putt for the win 1/0 securing a 4/1 victory for the team this week. Coopers 2nd shot, a 4 iron onto the green on the 2nd, was his best shot for the day.
Well done team! You should all be very proud of yourselves. See you all at the Vines vs Grange next week. Let’s go!!
Junior Div 2
Round 3 | 2nd March
Location: Kooyonga | vs The Vines
A Thrilling Third Round at Kooyonga Golf Club
The sun was shining, the fairways were pristine, and our team was eager to make a statement as we teed off against the Country District team at Kooyonga Golf Club. After a tough loss to The Vines the previous week, the fire to bounce back was burning brighter than ever.
Ethan Collette made his debut in the third round as a reserve, taking on Maicey Hughes. Having faced off before, Ethan showed incredible composure in this match. Despite battling hard and pushing right to the final hole, he was narrowly defeated 1 down. A strong effort that promises even more to come from him in future rounds.
Ben Yin, making his return to the team as our No. 5 player, was up next against Christopher Watson. Ben wasted no time getting into his rhythm, quickly going 2 up after just three holes. However, Chris wasn’t going down without a fight, rallying to take a 1-up lead into the final hole. With nerves of steel, Ben hit a clutch par on the last hole to halve the match. A gutsy performance that kept the pressure on.
Cade Barnes continued his winning streak in the No. 4 spot, facing off against Oliver Seuteni. Cade, already with two wins under his belt, kept his momentum rolling. With a fantastic finish on the final hole, Cade secured a crucial 1-up victory, completing his hat-trick and bringing home another point for the team.
Gareth Thien had a rollercoaster of a match in the No. 3 spot against Tristan Lakin Hall. After a tough start and finding himself 4 down after 12 holes, Gareth’s chances of victory seemed slim. But with a pep talk from his “Secret Weapon”—his dad—Gareth dug deep, fought back, and gradually closed the gap. By the 17th hole, he had leveled the match, and on the 18th, he played a brilliant pitch shot that landed just 5 feet from the pin. A stunning birdie sealed a dramatic comeback, with Gareth winning 1 up. What a turnaround!
In the No. 2 spot, Levi Ashton put on a show against Ryder Harman. Levi came out of the gate hot, quickly taking a commanding 4-up lead after just 5 holes. With his trademark skill and precision, he didn’t let up, finishing strong with a 5-up victory, closing out the match with holes to spare.
Ava Strazdins, our captain and No. 1 player, was the final piece of the puzzle. Facing Nate Harman, Ava’s consistency off the tee and on the greens proved too much for Nate to handle. Although Nate mounted a strong charge in the second half, Ava remained calm under pressure, sealing the deal with a 3-up win and 2 holes to spare. A fantastic performance from our captain, who led by example all day.
A Historic Victory
What a performance from the entire team—undoubtedly our biggest win of the season. Every player showcased resilience, determination, and heart, proving that we’re a force to be reckoned with. With this incredible momentum, we’re already looking ahead to our next challenge at The Vines against The Grange. Bring it on!
1) Ava Strazdins (3/2) won against Nate Harman
2) Levi Ashton (5/4)) won against Ryder Harman
3) Gareth Thien (1Up) won against Tristan Lakin Hall
4) Cade Barnes (1Up) won against Oliver Seuteni
5) Ben Yin squared with Christopher Watson
Res – Ethan Collete Beaten by Maicey Hughes (1up)
Bonnar Cup
Round 3 | 2nd March
Location: Thaxted Park | vs The Grange
The Bonnar group took on undefeated Grange at Thaxted Park this Sunday and came away with a gutsy 4 | 3 win. A great result against an experienced and in form opposition on a testing Thaxted Park.
An absent Kyle Feltus allowed us to introduce Blake Wilby to the Glenelg Bonnar team and he immediately impressed with a great attitude and game.
Leading us off at No. 7, Blake played solid golf but, as with all players, he found the Thaxted greens treacherous/tricky eventually going down in are hard fought match 3 and 2. We all look forward to seeing more of Blake as the season progresses.
Fletch Ryan at No. 6 was up against the wily and experienced Steve Berridge (a noted SC past player) and despite some memorable recovery shots also found the greens tricky and went down 5&4.
Harry Edwards at No.5 played some quality golf and despite a wayward drive or two recovered well with some accurate irons and finished with a great pitch at 17 to a foot to record a well earned 2&1 victory.
Playing No. 4, a 17yr veteran of Thaxted, Ben Winton played brilliantly from the start with 3 birdies to commence his match. Another great iron into the wind at the uphill 7th to 7 feet saw another birdie on his way to a great 3&2 victory.
Simon Gallie at No.4 had to call on all his experience as he maintained a slender lead throughout most of his match and led one up going into 18 but couldn’t hold off his Grange opponent at the last despite holing a fine 12 ft putt. Nevertheless, it proved to be a valuable half.
Will Starkey at No.2 , again hit some great drives and pitches to have his nose in front for most of his match but his opponent played some miraculous recovery shots at 16 and 17 and he found himself 1 down playing the last. However, Will kept his composure and holed a pressure putt to record a well earned half.
Zac Bray at No.1 returned to his best striking the ball brilliantly throughout and recording a comfortable 3&2 win to seal the team’s victory.
Thanks to caddies – Campbell, Dave, Leanne and including Kade Bryant and Harry Edwards for their late round assistance.
Special thanks to the SC boys staying on to cheer our guys home – this was very much appreciated
We now look forward to travelling to The Vines next Sunday to take on Kooyonga GC.

Pike Cup
Round 1 | 2nd March
Location: Kooyonga | vs The Grange
Result: Glenelg 4 ½ – ½ The Grange
The first match for the A2 Pike Cup pennant season at Kooyonga, showed the Glenelg Women’s team, dominate over The Grange from the first ball sailing down the fairway. Teeing off at the 10th hole, the players experience a perfect morning’s golf conditions. All team members showing grit and determination.
Match highlights:
No 1 player: Grace Ferrier’s putting was controlled and her opponent was unable to replicate Grace’s skill. She won 2/1.
No 2 player: Bec Hughes showing her calculating confidence and solid driving, providing a determined win of 5/3.
No 3 player: Tonia Ross had a tough opponent who produced some amazing golf. Not to be outdone, Tonia’s tenacity and persistence came through to square the match at the 18th.
No 4 player: Lou Pike played with consistency and control. Able to turn a sticky situation around, she struck the ball with style and had a positive 4/3 win.
No 5 player: Wendy Featherston put her pedal to the metal, being 5 up at the turn, was able to hold her resolve to win 5/4. Wendy should be commended in her play, as it was the first time she had played at Kooyonga, and being the first player off the tee prior to sunrise, did an exceptional job.
The caddies who made a huge difference to our girls keeping their composure, so they played their best shots and making my job easier, where – Hayden, Cath, Annabel, Nick and Brian. Thank you.
Congratulations on everyone on a great win! Our five players pulled out all stops – a great start to the season. Next week another early start at Aston Hills where we play RAGC.
A big thank you to everyone who helped me on my initiation into the job.
Women’s A3
Round 4 | 3rd March
Location: Glenelg | vs The Grange
On Monday, the A3 team continued their stellar season in perfect conditions at home, taking on the reigning champions, Mt Osmond, in a closely contested match. With two debutantes stepping up to the challenge, the team delivered a strong performance to secure a 3-2 victory, maintaining an undefeated record.
Match Highlights
Kathryn Kleinschmidt (#5) Kathryn, making her debut, showed some initial nerves but quickly settled into the match. Leveraging her local course knowledge, she took control early and dominated her opponent, ultimately securing an impressive 5/4 victory. A fantastic start for both Kathryn and the team!
Jackie Burke (#4) Another debutante, Jackie, faced an experienced competitor but got off to a fantastic start, going 2 up after 8 holes. After a brief setback that saw the match return to square, Jackie demonstrated her fighting spirit to regain the lead and close out the match 3/1. A great debut performance!
Wendy Vaughan (#3) Wendy was up against a strong opponent who putted exceptionally well, allowing her to gain a 3-up lead after 9 holes. In true spirit, Wendy fought back, reducing the deficit to 1 down going to the 17th. However, a clutch putt by her opponent on the 17th sealed the match, with Wendy going down 2/1. A hard-fought battle to the very end.
Fiona Eblen (#2) Fiona found herself in a tough contest against a seasoned player, trailing for much of the match. Her determination kept her in contention, as she brought the match to 1 down heading to the 17th. Unfortunately, a precise pitch onto the tricky 17th green by her opponent resulted in Fiona going down 2/1. Another great effort in a closely contested match.
Jo Ricourt (#1) Jo continued her good form and started strongly racing to a 3-up lead after 6 holes. Despite her opponent rallying late, Jo found herself 2-up after the 16th. A great approach shot by her opponent on the 17th ensured the match would go down to the final hole. Some bunker trouble on the 18th for the opposition allowed Jo to capitalise on the opportunity with some steady play to clinch the match 2 up. A fantastic result to seal the team victory!
With the win, the A3 team remains undefeated as they prepare for their next challenge against fellow unbeaten side, The Vines, at their home course in two weeks.
A huge thank you to this week’s caddies—Cathy, Lou, Kristin, Nick, and Jill—whose support was instrumental in securing another outstanding result.
We also want to acknowledge the pro shop team for planning and coordinating the matches, the grounds staff for delivering an immaculate course and the club house staff for their excellent after-match service.
Congratulations to the entire team for their efforts and determination in a well-earned victory!
