Williams, Lee & Coleman taste Vardon success

True wintery conditions tested South Australia’s best golfers on Sunday, fighting it out for the 2013 Glenelg Vardon events.

Grange’s Jack Williams took out major honors in the Men’s Brian Ferris Trophy, shooting solid rounds of 75 and 74, two shots ahead of Kooyonga’s Heath Riches. Glenelg’s Sam Hynes was a further two strokes back finishing in third.

Home course advantage proved pivotal for Jenny Lee as she ran away with the Women’s Vardon by five shots with rounds of 79, 78. Kooyonga’s Ebony Heard finished second while Glenelg’s Elysia Yap was a further two shots back to finish in third place.

A tight tussle in the Eric Scovell Junior Vardon saw Colin Coleman hold off a charging Jake Hurst. Coleman shot rounds of 78, 76 while Hurst finished with an impressive 73 after struggling to an 82 in the morning.
