Glenelg wins Pauline Sanderson Bowl

Today we had the pleasure of hosting the Pauline Sanderson Bowl at GGC.

This is the first year Pauline has not been there to congratulate the winning team, as last September she passed away at the age of 95.

Pauline simply derived great pleasure from seeing young players improve and older players continue in the game for a long as possible, as she did.

With the Pauline Sanderson Bowl, she realized her two favourite clubs, who she was a member of, had a healthy rivalry, and decided to organise regular matches for those who often didn’t get the opportunity to play match play and to do so in a friendly environment.

It was the 17th time Kooyonga had played GGC, in the challenge which started in 2012. It is a competition for 9 players on handicaps between 20-30 GU.

Our team comprised of Jen Carlaw, Julie O’Malley, Joanie Connell, Gerry Hall, Felicity Stevens, Joann Mackie, Heather Bedson, Erica Richardson and Emma Kavenagh.

All players enjoyed the challenge of playing team Kooyonga who gave us all their best shots, and the weather was, thank goodness was very kind, especially after the rain and wind of the past week.

The final result was a win to GGC – 6 games to 3 – with the trophy coming back to GGC!

After the final putt was sunk, we were given a lovely lunch in the Clubhouse, and Jean Roberts kindly spoke of her friend and colleague Pauline who had given ladies golf more than most.

I would like to thank all players for a lovely morning and for participating in the way it was intended.
