Last week Kade Bryant and Jack Leonard were representing SA in the Australian Junior Interstate Teams matches at Royal Fremantle Golf Club in Western Australia. Both boys had good weeks. Kade played all 6 matches in the No. 1 position with 4 wins, 1 half (against the current Aus Junior Champion) and 1 loss. Jack played 5 matches with 4 wins and 1 loss. This week Kade is in Melbourne playing in the Port Phillip Open Amateur over 72 holes at Commonwealth GC. This event also serves as qualifying for the Victorian Amateur Championship with the top 16 players progressing to the match play rounds.
On Friday the Kooyonga Cup was held which is a 36 hole stroke event at Kooyonga for members of Grange, Royal Adelaide, Glenelg and Kooyonga. Glenelg Members dominated the leaderboard with Bradley Stephens taking out the Kooyonga Cup for best net score on 142 ahead of David Welling in second place on 144. Mick Phillips took out the gross event on 159.
On Sunday we hosted Grange in a Pennant trial with 14 matches played. We came away with the win 8.5 to 5.5 which was a pleasing result against quality opposition. The Pennant season will commence on Sunday May 5th with the Simpson Cup at Mt Osmond and Bonnar Cup at Thaxted Park.
And finally the Seniors Order of Merit event was held at Flagstaff Hill on Monday. Nick Wake was runner-up on a score of 75 just one shot behind the winner. John Keogh won the Super Seniors on 82. Christine Trimmer was runner-up in the womens event on 88. Christine now leads the Order of Merit on 413 points ahead of Tonia Ross on 356.
Steve Weeks
