Last week’s event was the Victorian PGA Championship held at Moonah Links on the Mornington Peninsula and Glenelg had 3 members in action. Jack Buchanan finished at 4 under for the week after finishing with an excellent 67 on Sunday for a T15 result. Campbell Rawson had an excellent week for a ‘part time’ player these days. He finished at T23 on a score of 2 under having received an invitation to play as a past champion of the event. Lachy Barker missed the cut by one shot at 2 over but did play on the weekend with his amateur partner in the team event where they finished third.
Lachy now sits in 5th position on the Order of Merit while Jack has moved up to 46th after just 3 events for him.
Over the next two weeks Australia’s biggest events will be played. This week it is the $2m Australian PGA Championship to be held at Royal Queensland to be followed by the $1.7m Australian Open in Sydney at The Australian and The Lakes. Both events are co-sanctioned by the European Tour. Lachy is exempt into both by virtue of his win in the PNG Open earlier in the year. Jack as a recently turned professional does not have any exempt status and is relying on invitations or Monday qualifying. Unfortunately he was not successful in qualifying for the PGA Championship and will have this week off. Unless he receives a late invitation into the Open he will tee it up in qualifying on Mon 27th November.
