The enthusiasm for a day to remember was palpable from the moment the sun came up over the 18th fairway on Tuesday morning this week. With perfect conditions, perfect presentation of the course, perfect planning and a huge commitment from so many, the day bubbled along smoothly from start to finish.
A huge field of 148 players from 14 different clubs enjoyed an easy, but slow at times 4BBB stableford format – and the winning scores were something to be proud of! Winners and runners-up both shared a score of 57 points – and were all from Glenelg! Nuala Oades, Sue Aretzis, Sue Siebel and Sophie Michos formed the winning team of experience blended with exuberant brilliance. The runners-up were manned similarly and just beaten on a countback on the back 9 – Suzy Bosley, De Bock, Joan Ferrier and Anne Tait were very consistent across all 18 holes.
The longest drive in A grade went to Louise Pike, with Glenda Whitby (Narrandera) and Kirsty Page (Mt Osmond) for B and C grade. Ruth Martin, Onna O’Rourke (The Grange) and Peta Laundy won the NTP for A, B and C grades respectively. The novelty event fundraiser Dart Board was won by Toni Bennett (Westward Ho), with Sue Raggatt the runner-up. The other fundraiser event of straightest drive on the 2nd was won by Mi Park (North Adelaide).
The ever popular Minda Raffle was won by Des Carey with second prize going to Margaret Whelan – both lucky ladies!
Lunch was the chance to reflect on 55 years of support for a local, much respected charity – and it was a noisy, delicious and just right affair. Despite a later start than hoped for, the prize presentations, photos and laughs were all wrapped up by a respectable time in the afternoon.
The Minda staff and volunteers were very professional and engaging – we look forward to working with them again next year. Louise Fletcher from Minda spoke about where the fundraising dollars were spent and encouraged our members to maintain their support for the work of Minda by attending their ongoing promotions throughout the year.
The committee would like to thank Shane and the Pro Shop staff for their preparations and tireless patience throughout the day; Jake Milne for his enthusiasm with his photos for our screen; Sherylea, James, Kasey and the hospitality staff for their genuine desire to make everyone’s lunch enjoyable and Tim and the ground staff for the ‘jewel in the crown’ on the day – our magnificent course!
