The Twilight season of 2012/13 got off to a flying start with numbers exceeding one hundred early on and continuing for the majority of the season. Members and their guests enjoyed some extremely good, and of course some not so good.
Ian Symons had a hole in one on the 11th hole but we are still deliberating as to whether or not it should count, as it is only a nine hole competition- naturally Ian thinks otherwise! The Pro Shop team was at its best and the atmosphere on the balcony was fantastic, as were the culinary skills of the kitchen – to do 100 meals or so within such a short period of time is not an easy task. A job well done. Hiccups, yes there were a few, however under that pressure this would happen anywhere. I strongly feel that our Chefs did a great job this season and will only better it next time around. A few beers and the odd bottle of red seemed to flow freely.
Wine tastings were held on a weekly basis towards the season end and were successful for all involved. It was great to have our 2013 Pennant Sponsors, Anvers Wines, represented by Kevin Thomas, Stuart Baird and Owner/Winemaker Wayne Keoghan here on our twilight finale. Wayne was certainly a real character and greatly appreciates the support of the golf club as we do his.
I suppose we are all asking ourselves the same question – Twilight golf is over, what now?? For me, it’s a bonus – another night I can make it home to put my little boy to bed, for others there’s that empty feeling of what do I do with myself? The days are shorter, the nights are cooler and the hibernation period begins.
Although we have ceased Wednesday night trading, Thursday night Rump Night and the soon to commence Curry Night on Fridays can certainly fill the void of any golf club fix. So don’t sit at home this winter, your club of choice awaits you…
