On Sunday at Tea Tree Gully, Glenelg defeated Royal Adelaide 4 – 3 to earn a spot in the final in 2 weeks time. The match was a very close contest, standing at 3 games each, with Jack Buchanan playing the last hole all square in the decider. A brilliant chip and putt for birdie swung the match our way.
No. 7 – Michael Munn. Munny played some very steady golf through the first 5 holes to be 1 up, then a brilliant burst saw him break the game open and record a very good 6/4 victory.
No. 6 – Jack Tanner. As he has done all season won some early holes to set his game up, and continued to press home his advantage to win 5/3.
No. 5 – Ben Layton. Ben found himself 3 down after 3 (to 2 birdies) and as we have come to expect from him fought hard, but the margin was too great and he lost 2/1.
No. 4 – Jack Buchanan. In a high quality encounter against one of his State teammates, they went neck and neck all day, until our little master made the wonderful birdie at 18 to win 1 up.
No. 3 – Frank Vucic. In another high standard game Frank reached the turn all square, only to lose 3 of the next 4 holes. This margin was too great and he recorded a 3/2 loss.
No. 2 – Josh Hayes. In another tight match, Josh was square through 5, then with a run of sub par holes got out to a 4 up lead through 12 and go on to win 5/3 for a great result.
No. 1 – Jackson Kalz. In another quality game between the State teammates, Jackson reached the turn 1 down, and couldn’t make any putts to bridge the gap and lost his game 3/2.
While we have a long way to go, it has been a good season to qualify for the Final.
I would like to thank Jack Buchanan and Jack Tanner for their brilliant seasons, and while it’s disappointing to lose them both, I hope they play brilliantly at the World Junior Championship in the USA. Also to Jackson Kalz, best of luck next week in Singapore, and look forward to having you back in 2 weeks.
