With only 2 rounds remaining, it was vital for Glenelg to win to keep some slim hope of getting into the Final – unfortunately having to rely on other games to go our way! We got the job done winning 6 – 1 against Tea Tree Gully but to their credit, The Vines won their contest against Flagstaff Hill and are now in the box seat to take on The Grange in the Final. Our last round next week is to be played at The Vines – we need to beat Kooyonga and we need North Adelaide to halve or beat The Vines on The Vines home track – miracles do happen, so we have to approach our last game as a desperate MUST WIN game.
Against Tea Tree Gully at Grange East, it was a tight contest early; after 5 holes the match was evenly poised with Glenelg ahead in 2 games, behind in 2 games and three games all square but by the 11th hole Glenelg held a strong 6 – 1 advantage; an advantage that was maintained for the rest of the day.
At No. 7 Jacob Rillotta was very steady and ahead in his game all day and recorded a nice 4/3 win.
Ben Winton at No.6 had a struggle on his hands – his opponent had a putter that was running red hot and Ben was dormie 5 down after 13 holes – Ben made a late charge winning 3 holes and was set to win the 17th and take the game down 18, but his opponent holed yet another substantial putt to half the hole and win 2/1.
Andy Humphries at No. 5 had another tight game – just 1 up after 9, he played solid to be 3 up after 14, but his opponent won 15 and 16 to reduce the margin to just 1 up for Andy – the last 2 holes were halved for Andy to win 1 up.
At No. 4 Michael Ratajewski seemed well in control of his game – 4 up after 8 holes and playing some good golf but things turned on the back 9 and Michael was only 2 up after 14 but steadied to win his game 3/2.
Henry Duregon at No. 3 seemed out of sorts early to be 3 down after 5 (but after a swing tip from the Team Manager!) he got his act together to be square after 9 and went on to win 3/2.
At No. 2, Will Starkey held a 1 or 2 up advantage through most of the day and recorded a strong 3/1 victory.
Similarly, Simon Gallie at No. 1 was 1 or 2 up for most of the day and also recorded a strong 3/2 win.
So, with one more week to go, we have our fingers crossed for results to go our way!
