Report by Wayne Humphries
Team Manager
In a contest that promised to be an absorbing battle, it turned out exactly that way with a tied result. Both teams looked likely winners at certain stages and the drawn result was probably a fitting outcome.
The Grange team took the initiative early and after 9 holes were leading the contest 5 to 2. The 2 leading for Glenelg were well in control.
Henry Duregon at No. 3 was 9 up after 9 holes and finished quite early with an 8/7 victory.
Michael Ratajewski at No. 6 was 5 up after 9 and continued on to win 6/5.
At No. 1 Michael Munn was having a tough time to be 5 down after 9 and went down 6/5.
So, we had 2 early wins on the board and 1 loss.
Harry Burner at No. 2 lost 2 early holes and remained 2 down for most of the day before losing 3/2.
So now 2 all – with the remaining 3 games in the balance.
Ben Winton at No. 7 was 2 down after 9 but won 4 holes in a row to be 2 up after 15 – losses on 16 and 17 saw the game go down 18 all square where Ben’s chip for birdie sat right on the lip of the hole and his opponent then holed a 6 foot par putt to salvage a halved game.
Simon Gallie at No. 5 had an absorbing tussle all day – 1 down after 9, Simon won 10, 11 and 12 to go 2 up and maintained that advantage to win 2/1.
Andy Humphries at No. 4 also had a tight game all day – he was 2 down early and turned 1 down and got back to square after 12 and was still square after 15, but a loss at 16 put him 1 down and with a half on 17 was 1 down playing 18 – Andy had his chances on 18 but a 5 foot putt for victory slid by and a 1 down loss and a tied team result.
Thank you again to all the caddies, parents and the handful of club members for their support.
Next Sunday we play The Vines at North Adelaide from 11.00am.
