As part of the Pro Shop restructure we welcome Gavin Fontaine to our team. With over 20 years of knowledge in teaching golf as an AAA Golf Professional in Australia and overseas, Gavin provides professional golf tuition for all levels. Gavin is largely based at the North Adelaide Golf Course but will be offering lessons at Glenelg and spending some time in the shop.
With a great passion for teaching, Gavin dedicates every lesson to his students’ individual needs to help improving their games and build up confidence in their golf.
In the last 27 years of teaching, Gavin has gained a wide range of experience through playing with top golfers, learning from the best teachers and playing courses all over the world. During those years, he participated in numerous golf seminars to improve his skills as a teacher, focusing more and more on the mental side of the game. Today, with a diploma in sports psychology, his goal is to get that satisfaction into all his students’ golf games – not only through their technique, but also their mental strength.
“I have more than 30 years’ experience in Australia and Overseas with private and public golf operations. During my career I have worked as a head professional and teaching professional, managed and operated golf shops and developed programs to increase junior and women participation along with coaching for players with disabilities.
I am currently certified PGA professional with an advanced status in coaching and a certified all abilities coach. My other passion in coaching is psychology and I have undertaken a course in Manchester, England to improve my skills in this area.
I have been the head coach of the Como Golf Academy in Perth, WA for 8 years which has produced and is developing players including Hannah Green, Ben Ferguson and Cameron Jones. I have also worked in the role as state development coach WA where players of the quality of Curtis Luck and Oliver Goss cut their teeth. My wide experience in teaching techniques and fitting systems and ongoing personal development, along with my knowledge of sport psychology combine to bring the best out of all levels of players.
Most of all I genuinely enjoy teaching golf and developing players skills from helping beginners maintain their interest in the game to fine tuning the course management and mental game of the more elite. I am looking forward to enhancing the already very strong coaching team at Glenelg and I will embrace the challenges that lay ahead.”
Please join us in welcoming Gavin to Glenelg!
