Members and guests will have noticed some different activity on the course with our Course Maintenance team undertaking a number of projects in recent weeks, all with the aim of improving the quality of our course and the golfing experience.
12th Hole & Nursery Mounding
Aims to accommodate planting that will ultimately soften the visual impact of some of the adjacent housing, as well as the turf nursery.
16th Tee Path
Similar to the 11th tee, aims to improve our ability to cater for the increase in motorised vehicle use by providing a one-way loop with access to each teeing area, as well as a smaller pedestrian only path for convenience. Additional seeding and planting undertaken to further define teeing areas.
10th Tee Path
A new path being created on the right side of the tee complex to promote one way access for motorised vehicles from the 9th green. Forward tees being realigned and integrated into existing mounding.
3rd Green Bunkers
Utilising the 19th hole in its place, the 3th hole has been closed to allow the refurbishment of the ride hand side bunkers. The larger front bunker has been divided into two smaller bunkers, and the rear bunker reshaped slightly. This aims to reduce sand area exposed to wind and drying, which combined with the depth of sand in this location on the course, has compromised playability at times and allow for improved access on right side of bunkers for motorised vehicles. The result is a series of three bunkers “stepping” up the right side of the green, that look very striking.
It is typical for these types of projects to be undertaken at this time of year when the grass growth slows and some of the time can be used that would normally be spent managing turf playing surfaces.
We trust these are viewed as enhancements to our wonderful golf course that will ultimately add to the playing experience at Glenelg.
