Simpson Cup player, Matt McGowan, has taken out the 2012 Club Championship, beating Campbell Rawson down the 36th hole.
After McGowan was 4up through the morning’s 18 holes and 5 up through 25 holes, Rawson showed tremendous fight and outstanding golf to bring the match to all square through 35 holes.
Rawson made solid birdies on the 12th and 16th holes in the afternoon to keep the heat on McGowan. An impeccable short game however kept McGowan in the match. It was fittingly a clutch up and down on the 36th hole that sealed the match and the Club Championship for 23 year old McGowan, in what was an entertaining match and one played in great spirit.
In other matches, Jill Hodge was too strong for daughter, Josie, in the Saturday Women’s Championship played over 36 holes, winning 4/3.
Toby Koch took out the A Grade Plate 3/2 over Brian Welsh, while William Traljic defeated Glenn Sterrey in the B Grade Championship. 12 year old Jackson Kalz beat Troy Perriam 2up in the B Grade Plate and shows a lot of potential for his future. His father Brenton however, was not so lucky however, defeated 7/6 by Don Tucker in the C Grade Championship Final.
