Women’s Grade 1 start season with a loss

Glenelg's Sarah Crocker

Report by Cathy Johnson (Team Manager)

Our young (except one) 2016 A1 Team opened their Pennant season with a strongly fought but disappointing loss 1 ½  – 3 ½  to a much older experienced Kooyonga

Charley Jacobs, 14 year old State Junior and Senior Team Member and recent SSSSA winner, at number 5, made her Pennant debut for Glenelg. Charley made a strong start to be 2 up after two but was pegged back to be 1 down after nine. The back nine was very even with Charley unable to hole a last put to square the match. She finished 1 down.

Sarah Crocker, 2016 State Senior Team Member, undefeated in the last four Pennant seasons played at number 4. Sarah continued her wonderful winning ways. She was 2 up after three, 3 up after nine, 4 up after 13. Sarah held off a brief challenge to win her match 3/2.

Sam White, at number 3, made her A1 debut for the Club. Sam competed strongly on the front nine and was only 1 down. Sadly on the back, despite hitting the ball extremely well, Sam could not get her putter working and was 3 down after 13 and lost the next two and the match 5/3.

Jill Hodge, our seasoned veteran at number 2, came up against restored amateur Hayley Hunt! Jill was 1 down for all of the front nine but managed to get the match back to square after 13. All square going down 18, Jill gave herself the chance to win the match but could not get the putt to drop. Her match was halved.

Elysia Yap, another State Team Member, at number 1 was also strong on the front nine. She was square after six and only 1 down after nine but her very experienced older opponent got the better of her on the back nine. Elysia lost her match 4/3.
