Sharp Cup – Round 6

Glenelg vs Blackwood at Tea Tree Gully Golf Club
Glenelg 5 defeated Blackwood 0
Report by James McDonald (Assistant Manager)
After coming off a good win last week, the juniors faced an inexperienced Blackwood team. Glenelg won the contest 5 games to nil. To the teams credit they played in a sporting manner and were very respectful of their opponents. I received a number of positive comments afterwards from the opposition parents.
Will Starkey received his first call up to the team this week, which he thoroughly deserved. Will has supported the team all year and has been a keen participant at the Tuesday night junior practices. Will played a young opponent who is learning the game and as a result proved too strong and won his game comfortably.
Haydn Booth had a straight forward match against Oliver Small from Blackwood. Haydn, who plays at Tea Tree Gully when not at Glenelg was always going to be tough. He quietly went about his game to win well. Oliver who is only eleven looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Todd Williams played number three and had to get his mind on the job before he even teed off. The girl playing number one for Blackwood expressed her disappointment that they would not be playing each other. Todd needed to take the time to get his heart rate down. Todd started off a little scratchy but was putting good holes together by the end to win his game 7/6.
Sam Raschella played Lucinda Tye at two. He played a high quality brand of golf and didn’t give away any chances all day. He won his match convincingly.
Jack Hynes was promoted to number one and had the toughest match of the round against Jess Reynolds. Jess hit a very consistent ball and Jack had to be on his game. Jack was once again striking it nicely even if he did overshoot a couple of greens. He played a consistent match and won his game 5/4.
Unfortunately the finals are now out of reach. With one last match against Mount Osmond next week, it would be good for the team to finish the season on a high.
