Simpson Cup
Round 4 | 9th March
Location: Royal Adelaide | vs Royal Adelaide
The 4th round of Simpson Cup was played at Royal Adelaide, and we playing the home team. An early morning tee off in wonderful golfing conditions.
Unfortunately for Glenelg, Royal Adelaide were too good for us winning 5 matches to 2.
Individual Matches.
Matt Jacquier returned to the team and started well, going through 4 holes square. His opponent then went on a run and won the match 6/5.
David Brand playing at 6 found an opponent in early form with birdies at the second and third holes.still 2 down after 6 holes he lost the next 3 holes to eventually lose 6/4.
Michael Phillips had a very close match all day, with nothing in the match all day, Michael appeared to be safe at 2 up after 13 holes, but his opponent fought back with 2 birdies to be square after15. The last 3 holes were halved to finish Square.
Zac Bray, playing his first game for the season, started slowly losing the first 3 holes. Settling down and playing some solid golf, he trailed by 1 hole after 10, but couldn’t bridge the gap before losing 4/2.
Michael Munn had a high quality game against Cawthorn. Trailing by 1 hole for most of the match, he lost 14 to go 2 down, but birdies at 16 and 17 had him square playing the last. Amazing pars at the last saw the match finish square.
Josh Hayes continued his super season with another victory. 3 up after 5 holes, then back to square after 10, then some sub par golf saw him close the match out 3/2.
Jack Leonard was pitted against Josh Grundel. Two of South Australia’s best juniors. Josh got the early lead but was pegged back by Jack, to be square through 10 holes. Josh came back with a couple of birdies to win 3/2.
Overall a disappointing loss to very formidable opponents. Our home game against TTG. this Sunday is a crucial game for us to stay in finals contention.

Sanderson Cup
Round 2 | 9th March
Location: Royal Adelaide | vs Kooyonga
Jill Hodge lost to Jaime Hards 2/1
Zoe Manton lost to Matilda Miels 5/4
Maiya Jakupec defeated Hayley Hunt 3/2
Bec Hardy defeated Rachel Fry 4/2
Grace Ferrier defeated Mia Luey 3/2
A good win to the team in trying conditions beating Kooyonga 3/2
Making her Sanderson Cup debut Grace played very solid golf going up early and staying that way throughout her match, winning 3/2. Great golf Grace.
Playing at number 4 Bec also took an early lead and had a convincing win, winning 4/2.
Bec had 2 bogeys, 1 birdie and the rest pars. Well played Bec.
Maiya also displayed some great golf. She peppered the pin on 6 and 7, chipped in on 9 finishing the day with 5 birdies. A great match Maiya.
Zoe had a tough day, going down early and was not able to gain any momentum throughout her match.
Jill also was down early in her match being 3 down at the turn but in true Jill style she managed to get back to 1 down after 16. A drive into the rough on 17 didn’t help Jill and she lost 2/1. A great effort in very hot conditions.
Many thanks to the caddies Juliet, Nick, Victor, Nat, Hayden and Nick. You all had your work cut out for you trying to keep your players cool and hydrated.
We play Grange next week at Glenelg hitting off at 1115.

Bonnar Cup
Round 4 | 9th March
Location: The Vines | vs Kooyonga
The Bonnar group had an early 7:50 hit off at the picturesque The Vines setting this week taking on Kooyonga in a 3rd v. 4th clash.
Losing our No1. Zac Bray to Simpson Cup duties, we welcomed Nick Wake as a very experienced replacement and set off knowing that we had a strong team on paper but would have to be at our best to overcome a competitive opponent.
Glenelg has consistently promoted juniors and others developing their games to the Bonnar group – not something we see much of in our opponents and notably this week, two of our younger brigade returned their first Bonnar wins for the club setting up our eventual victory on the day. A great sign of things to come. All members can note that, the way they conduct themselves and the standard of play they bring to the group is something the Glenelg golfing community can be very proud of.
Getting us underway at No.7 Blake Wilby was 1 up after 9 and in just his second outing, put the pressure on to return his first victory 4&3. A great start for the day.
Kyle Feltus then followed up with his first Bonnar victory with a great 2up after battling hard all day. Another great achievement for Kyle who travels from Ceduna each week to represent the club!
Fletch Ryan, backing up a great Saturday game, also played well in the No.5 game but could not match some great golf from his opponent and eventually lost 3&2.
The ever reliable Simon Gallie, playing the No.4 game, displayed some great ball striking in his match to get to 4 up after 9 and kept his composure well to close out 4&3. A stand out performance for the day.
Ben Winton had his hands full at No.3 with an equally experienced opponent and lipped out on the 16th to extend the match. Unfortunately, the 17th and 18th then went the wrong way and the match was halved.
At No.2 Will Starkey, having been square after 9, returned a solid back 9 to complete a valuable 1up victory, holding on with a great second shot recovery from trees left of the 18th.
Finally, playing at No.1 and doing everything expected of him, Nick Wake deployed his length and accuracy for a combative 5&3 victory to round off a great day for the group.
Thanks to caddies, Sam Wake, James Bridgen, Dave Rosie, Keith Barnard and Simon.
Now sitting 3rd on the ladder, we take on TTG at TTG next week with a challenging 7am hit-off.

Pike Cup
Round 2 | 9th March
Location: Aston Hills | vs Royal Adelaide
Result: Glenelg 3 – 2 RAGC
The weather played the decider on Sunday morning, as the mercury was tipped to reach 36C. The cut off for all matches to be cancelled is 37C. We arrived at Aston Hills as the sun was rising. The conditions for the first nine holes were perfect, then it did warm up as the morning progressed.
Match highlights:
No 1 player: Sarah Crocker was in top form as she struck the ball with confidence. Sarah lost 2/3, however was organized and thorough with her preparation, and she executed some fine golfing shots.
No 2 player: Bec Hughes’ win of 2/1 showed her determination, especially as the morning became warmer, where she placed the winning shots to take out her opponent.
No 3 player: Tonia Ross won 2 up at the 18th, with a winning strike off the tee, followed by her second onto the green. Was great to watch Tonia as she strode out towards the finish line.
No 4 player: Lou Pike played textbook golf. She was able to hold her lead all morning and was extremely focused by delivering a positive 6/4 win.
No 5 player: Jo Ricourt found some of the trees (Aston Hills have a lot of trees), and her recovery each time was to be commended as she gave her best, however lost 2/1.
The caddies who were up with the sparrows with all of us, provided umbrellas, cool drinks and great guidance, they included Imelda, Cath, Annabel, Nick and Jo Rawson. Thank you all so much.
Congratulations to everyone on a great win for the second week! Our five players should all be commended on fair play and team support for each other.
Next week we play at home, against Kooyonga with a slightly more respectable tee time of 12:20pm! Go Pikies!
