Women’s A3
A3 Pennant Report – May 13
Our second-round match took place at Blackwood against Mt Osmond. It was a chilly start but once the sun came out, conditions and the course were picture perfect.
There were a couple of changes to the team line up with Wendy Featherston making her debut and Fiona Eblen returning after illness.
As expected, Mt Osmond was a strong opponent but with great grit and determination, Glenelg managed to snatch the win on the final hole of the match. Final result 3.5 to 1.5.
Running through the order:
Jill McDonald teed off first and found herself down from the start but came back to be just one down at the turn. Unfortunately, a tough back nine resulted in her losing the match 4/3.
Fiona Eblen at number 4 also had a tough start finding herself down after the first few holes. She fought back to be only one down at the turn and played a strong back nine to keep it square or within one hole. At one down, Fiona hit a great approach shot on 18 to win the hole and halve her match.
Wendy Featherston played at number 3 and was the standout performer of the day. She played strong steady golf to comprehensively defeat her opponent 5/3. A fantastic debut!
Jo Ricourt at number 2 also had a strong day out leading for most of her match. Great ball striking and excellent putting sealed the win against a strong opponent 2/1.
With the match poised at 2.5 to 1.5 it was down to the last match.
Jo Rawson got off to a flying start to be 3 holes up after nine. A valiant fight back by her opponent turned the tide with Jo finding herself 2 down after 15. Jo then turned it on to win the next two holes and bring the match back to level. On 18, Jo came through with a great approach shot and clutch putt to win her match (1 Up) and secure the overall win.
Another great effort by the team and we now sit at equal first place on the ladder. Next week we take on North Adelaide at Highercombe.
A big thank you to our caddies for the round – Juliet Culley, Jill Gehling, Wendy Vaughan, Michelle McCormack and Louise Pike. A great support as always!
Also, a big thank you to Sue Touhy who will be taking over Manager duties for the next 3 weeks.

Cleek 2 Report for Monday 13th May
Blackwood Golf Club was lovely and the weather was perfect for our 1st match of the season against The Grange.
With 3 rookies in the team, Lynne Rainey, Sue Siebel and Sally Sechser, the final result (a squared match) was a very creditable performance.
Three matches remained extremely close throughout the day to finish on the 17th or 18th hole. Well done to Julie Gobbie who won 2/1, Sally Sechser with a win on the 18th and to Frances McPherson at number 1 who squared her match with a fabulous chip onto the 18th.
A special thankyou to our caddies, Thyra Oakley, Nuala Oades, Cathie Molloy, Jen Carlaw and Jackie Burke for helping out today.
