Last week the Australian Junior Amateur was held at Gosnells Golf Club in WA. We had Kade Bryant and Jack Leonard competing. Kade went into the last round just two off the lead after a fine 64 in round 3. However he was unable to keep the momentum going eventually finishing in a tie for 14th with scores of 71-74-64-76=285. Jack also made the 54 hole cut with scores of 78-70-72-80=300 to finish in 39th place highlighted by his second round score of even par. This week the boys will be representing SA in the Australian Junior Interstate Teams matches from 15-18 April being played at Royal Fremantle.
Jack Buchanan competed in the Final Stage of the Australasian PGA Tour Qualifying school at Moonah Links. The top 30 and ties would gain a tour card for next season. Going into the last round Jack was in 35th place needing a good round on the last day to qualify. A last day 68 saw him launch up the leaderboard to finish in 12th position which should see him gain entry to most tournaments next season.
In the West Lakes Vardon held on Sunday we had a winner with Nathan Uebergang scoring an even par round of 70 for a one stroke victory. Congratulations Nathan! Bec Hardy was third in the women’s event on 78.
Sunday also saw the staging of a pennant trial against Blackwood at Blackwood for the Glenwood Trophy. We came away with a 7 .5 to 3.5 victory to retain the trophy. Next Sunday we will have a trial against Grange at Glenelg before the season starts on 5 May.
