McMillan Shield was at Tea Tree Gully this week against Thaxted Park hitting off the tenth hole. We were able to sneak a 3/2 victory against an impressive Thaxted Park team.
Zac Goers (14) played at number one again this week against Jett Henley (11). Zac played well all day but Jett had a day out being only a couple over par when the match ended with Zac going down 6 and 4.
Levi Ashton (20) came into the team for his first match Glenelg this week after an injury ruled him out earlier in the season. He played Kai McVie (12) in very up and down battle. Levi won the first 4 holes to set up a great lead but Kai fought back and the match was all square after 16 holes. An incredible pitch out of the trees on the final hole, saw Levi cleverly use the slope at the back of the green with his ball running back down to pin high. A careful two putt was sufficient to win the hole and take a 2 up win for the team.
Jayden McGrath (24) played Nick Jones (18) at number three this week. Jayden was ahead pretty much all day and steadily increased his lead to 4 up with 5 to play. Winning the next hole secured him his first victory in McMillan Shield with a 5 and 4 win. Well done Jayden!
At number 4 Adele Wang (24) played Ethan Jainsch (20). It was a very tough match for Adele against a long hitting Ethan. But Adele held her head high and continued to fight all the way to the end eventually losing 3 and 2.
Damia Muadz (54) was at number 5 this week against Lachlan Hodges (40). Damia got off to a great start being 3 up after 3 holes. She held her nerves very well and continued to play smart golf including a par 5 on the 13th hole. Despite becoming nervous at the potential of her first win, she held her nerve very well and took out the match 3 and 2. Great job Damia!
Our old hand of the team at the ripe old age (of nearly 11) Gareth Thien (20) filled in at reserve this week and played Levi Corbett (16). In what was a very exciting and nail biting match Gareth was his usual composed self and took victory on the final hole. Levi came up after the match and asked “How do you beat someone who never misses a fairway?”
Once again all the kids rallied behind one another once their own matches had finished. The support they give their teammates is incredible and you can see how their spirits lift with the camaraderie of their friends. Win or lose they all enjoy the experience and can’t wait for the next match.
