Glenelg Seniors win through to final

The Glenelg Senior Pennant team defeated a strong Tea Tree Gully team 5/2 in the Semi Final played at Mt. Osmond last Monday. This will be the first time ever that Tea Tree Gully have not played off in the Final – so, a great result by the Glenelg boys.

We now play Blackwood at Kooyonga this Monday at Kooyonga from 12 noon – Blackwood winning through with a tight 4/3 victory over The Vines.

Brian Welsh at 6 recovered from 2 down after 3 to win comfortably 5&4 and Villi Koronis at 3 had a day out and also won comfortably 6&4. This gave the Glenelg team a strong start and with James Mattsson, Nick Wake and Deane Harris 4up, 4up and 2up respectively after 9, it was looking good for Glenelg – but we all know golf is a funny game!!

Peter Jeffrey at 7 was square after 9, but could not quite match a good back 9 by his opponent to go down 2&1. Greg Way at 5 had a fight on his hands with his opponent holing quite a few nice putts – Greg was 3 down after 9 but kept fighting to be one down playing the last which was halved in pars to give TTG a 1 up win – we were now 2 wins each and with TTG being so competitive, we still needed things to go our way to get the win. James Mattsson at 4 struggled to match his opponent on the back 9, and after being 4 up had to win the 19th hole to secure a much needed win and a third win for the team. In the meantime Nick Wake at 2 and Deane Harris at 1 maintained the edge over their opponents, but had to wait until the 17th hole to shake hands – 2 good wins against strong opposition and gave us a team 5/2 victory.

We now look forward to the Final and the chance to win our first Div 1 Senior Pennant next Monday at Kooyonga. Good luck boys.
