With a field of 104 players, overcast weather and a shotgun start at 8 all augured well for a great day on Tuesday the 24th. The cooler than hoped for conditions kept the pace of play well regulated, but the drinks wagon (which had been snaffled by the ground staff) took a while to be re-jigged onto a cart and catch all those who were anticipating a nice sip of the Mollydooker Sparkling Shiraz!
It was worth waiting for and along with chocolates, Baileys and the smiles from Matty Willmer (Mollydooker Australian Distribution Rep) and our own James (he’s everywhere) Bridgen, the pace slowed somewhat!
The windy conditions added some interest, especially for many on the 11th. This made achieving the Nearest to the Pins all the more admirable.
Lunch was able to start in a timely manner and we were pleased to host guests from 5 other clubs and the Mollydooker Representatives, Matty Willmer and Sarah Marquis (CEO and Chief Winemaker). Sarah proved to be a popular speaker and we were all warmed by the stories she shared about Mollydooker’s history and vision.
Winners of the competition of the day, a Canadian Foursomes Stableford, were Michelle McCormack and her guest from Mt Osmond, Felicity Scholz with a score of 39 points on a countback from second placers Sarah Crocker and Julie O’Malley.
Tonia Ross was a standout winning NTP’s for the A grade on all but the 11th (I did say the wind was a challenge there!) and Claire Smith made her winning debut with the longest drive in C grade as well as the NTP on the 14th.
The much anticipated Raffle, with the main prize consisting of the Velvet Experience for 2 and accommodation at Woodstock Cabin in McLaren Vale, was won by Jo Rawson. Mollydooker provided very generous prizes for the other lucky draw winners and runners up in all the categories. Their cellar door prices for orders on the day attracted a great response, and Margaret Harris’s lucky mailing list card was awarded with a fine bottle of the acclaimed Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz.
Many thanks go to the hospitality staff, grounds staff, Pro Shop and front office for bringing together all the elements of a successful day. We look forward to an equally great day with Mollydooker as our sponsors next year.
