Simpson Cup Top of the Table
Round 7, 30 June
The Glenelg Simpson Cup team on a very cold day travelled to the Tanunda Pines Golf Club for the match against Southern. With top position on the line our boys played their best to complete a very strong 6 1/2 to 1/2 win. The team is now looking forward to next weeks semi final again against Southern at Glenelg.
Playing at no7, Jackson Kalz was having a tough battle against a determined opponent. With Jackson only having a 1 hole advantage for most of the match he made a great up and down on the 17th hole to win 2/1.
Josh Hayes at no6, was back to his best form having a strong win. After being 6up after 9 holes Josh closed out his match winning 6/5.
Lachlan Barker back from college in the USA playing at no5 also had a comfortable win. After being 5up after 7 holes Lachy momentarily let his opponent back into the match to be 4up after 12 holes. The score quickly changed with Lachy finishing with a 5/4 win.
Jack Tanner at no4 continued his great pennant season winning his match 7/6. Jack was always in control of his match after being 4up after 7 holes then 6up after 9 to then go on and complete the best win of the day.
Ben Layton at no3 is also having an outstanding season. After being 3up after 7 holes Ben put his foot down to go on and win his match 6/5.
Sam Earl at no2 was off to an even start for the first 5 holes. Gaining a 2 hole advantage after 7 holes Sam extended his lead to be 3 up after 11 holes. Then winning 2 of the next 3 holes Sam completed a fine 5/4 victory.
Playing at no1, Jack Buchanan was off to a slow start being 4 down after 8 holes. Showing his class and playing a tough opponent Jack got back to square after 12 holes. To then be 1 up after 14 holes and then lose 16th to be back to square, the score remained the same after 18 with Jack having a hard fought halved match.
The team will work hard this week to try and ensure a semi final win next Sunday and give us a shot at a 4th consecutive Simpson Cup Final.
Thanks to the caddies and our loyal bunch of supporters for braving not only the cold conditions but also the trip up to The Barossa Valley.
We hope to see as many members as possible out next week supporting our team.
