Simpson Cup 2019 Pennant Winners

Our Simpson Cup team playing at Kooyonga Golf Club against The Grange Golf Club completed a fantastic pennant season with a convincing 5 1/2 to 1 1/2 matches win in the final. Grange to their credit after being 2 matches down early fought hard to keep themselves in the contest but in the end our boys proved too strong.

For our team it was an outstanding effort with 4 players winning their matches and as the result was then decided the remaining 3 matches were called halved.

Jackson Kalz at no7 played very well today and was off to a fast start being 3up after 3 holes and never looked back to eventually win 4/3. Jackson had a solid season with 4 wins and 2 losses.

Josh Hayes at no6 had a tough battle being 2 down after 11 holes but with a never give up attitude fought his way back to be even after 18 holes. This match was called a half as we already had the required 4 wins. Josh had a great season with 6 wins 2 halves and 1 loss.

Lachy Barker at no 5 was outstanding completely overwhelming his Grange opponent winning his match 8/7. Lachy played 3 matches for 2 wins 1 halved.

Playing no 4 Jack Tanner also had a tough battle with a wily experienced opponent but his class prevailed winning his match 2/1. Jack had an outstanding season with 8 wins and 1 halved match

Ben Layton at no 3 completed a sensational season winning all of his matches in convincing style and today was no different with a 3/2 result. To win all matches playing at no 3 with 3/2 being his tightest win is outstanding.

Playing no 2 Sam Earl was also having a tough battle being square after 8 holes then gained a 2 hole advantage after 11 holes. This match was eventually called a half also as we had the required wins. A great season by Sam winning 6 matches, 2 halved and 1 loss.

Jack Buchanan playing no1 was another of the team to have a halved match as the result was decided. After being down early in his match Jack fought back to 1 down after 11 holes and was on the 16th when the match was halted. Jack was another player to have a great season winning 4 matches 2 halved and 1 loss.

Thanks to Anthony Olsen, Michael Munn, Harry Burner and David Hiern for their part in the team throughout the season. Team success does not happen without a quality squad.

Thanks to all of the coaching staff, caddies and all of the the supporters for braving the poor weather conditions today and also throughout the season.
