Pike Semi-Final Report
Semi-Final, 7 July
Glenelg lost 3 games to 2.
Firstly congratulations to all of the Glenelg teams for making it into the Finals. Wish we were with you but it was not to be.
Writing a winning report or a great escape is always easier than trying to put a loss into perspective. Trying to say something nice and positive about losing is difficult, especially so soon after losing. On paper we were the stronger team – undefeated coming into the Semi Finals. On paper we had already beaten Mid North leading up to the Semi Finals. We were not complacent, well aware that it is a different ball game in Finals.
Truth is only two of our five players played well enough to win. Truth is we had opportunities to tip the scales and if all the stars aligned we could have. Truth is everyone tried their hardest and it just was not good enough on the day. It was always going to come down to the wire.
Royal Adelaide turf was damp and soggy on the fairways diminishing our long hitter’s advantage somewhat. Greens were slick, pins were fairly placed, weather was perfect for a good day of golf, we teed off the 14th.
Tilly again played solid golf, a close match with very little in it. Taking the lead in the last few holes to win 1 up. Thanks to Bec for helping to get Tilly across the line. Tilly has been a strong, reliable player for us at number one.
Sam played some great shots, built a solid lead and never looked back, winning comfortably 4/3. A great season having won all her matches for the team.
Eliza couldn’t fight off her experienced and seasoned opponent, who had a “great day” on the course playing some really fine shots. Constant pressure on Eliza throughout the round brought about an eventual loss of 5/4.
Lou’s endeavour was there but her short game wasn’t on song, a signature late rally in the match but she was too far back, losing 5/4.
Taylah’s match was tight on the front nine, taking a good lead into the second six. However her experienced opponent never gave up, making some strong chips and solid putts at crucial moments, putting extra pressure on Taylah’s own short game, forcing errors. Losing 2 quick holes, halving the 18th (13th hole) the game went on to the 19th. Taylah’s opponent had her measure at this stage, won the hole and unfortunately won the match for Mid North.
They say losing can make you stronger or force you into early retirement!
When we have time to reflect on our preparation, our choices, our game, our individual play, I am sure we will agree we can all improve. When the time is right we will dust the boots and work even harder to get it right for 2020.
Again a big thank you to Sarah, caddies and supporters for being there for us.

Team Manager
