Strong Finish to Minor Round for Bonnar
Round 7, 30 June
The Glenelg Bonnar team finished the minor round strongly with a convincing 6 ½ to a ½ win over Blackwood to finish level with The Grange, but second on countback with The Grange winning just one more individual game than Glenelg over the 49 games played during the minor round.
After 9 holes in our contest against Blackwood we were ahead in 5 games and square in the other 2.
The Glenelg boys stuck to their task over the second 9 to record the comfortable win in extremely cold conditions.
Henry Duregon at No. 7 got off to a good start to be 3 up after 5 and maintained the advantage to win 4 & 3.
Ben Magi at No. 6 was 6 up after 9 and went on to win 7 & 5.
At No.5 Simon Gallie recovered from 2 down after 5 to take a 1 up lead after 9 and won some late holes to win 3 & 2.
Will Starkey at No.4 played sub-par golf over the first 9 to be 4 up at the turn and went on to win 5 & 4.
David Hiern at No.3 was 2 up after 9 but some loose tee shots from David saw the game back to all square after 13 – David got back to 1up playing the last hole but his opponent holed a 25 foot birdie putt to halve their game.
Anthony Olsen at No.2 was 2 up early after 5 holes, but his opponent played some steady golf to square the game after 9 – but Ols consolidated over the second 9 to win 3 & 1.
Michael Munn at No. 1 had an intriguing game in a high quality match – it was tight early with the game all square after 9 – but then Munny won 3 holes to go 3 up after 13 only to lose 3 holes in a row to be back all square after 16. Michael won 17 to be 1 up playing the last in the dark where he salvaged a sandy par to win his match 1up.
We have now qualified for the Semi Final next week at Grange West and will play Kooyonga from 11.15am. The winner will then play in the Bonnar Cup Final the following week at The Vines.
