Sharp Solid Opener
Round 1, 26 May
The sharp cup team in their season opener at home against Country Districts represented the club well in tough conditions. Country Districts looked at times to steel an unlikely victory before Glenelg steadied the ship.
First out the gate was Noah Collison. Noah had a tight tussle all day trading blows with his opponent and at times looked to take control unfortunately after several good holes by both players his opponent was able to take the upper hand and Noah could not quite bridge the gap.
At No. 4 Joshua Grundel got out of the blocks a little slowly but decided after 9 holes his day was just starting and went on to record a 4 & 2 victory
Jack Ramage at 3 ran riot early in tough conditions to blow his opponent out of the water and showed his maturity at this level maintain his advantage. Playing some fantastic golf to finish 7 & 6
At No.2 Calvin Perks probably drew the short straw for the day playing an opponent who just had a good day, Calvin stuck it out and can take a lot out of the day with the weapons Calvin possesses we as a team will no doubt see the tables turned in the coming weeks. Having said that it was still and intriguing game with Calvin fighting at various stages to take control and never being more than 1 or 2 down.
Last of the tee Captain Harry Edwards made a statement of intent for year to come playing the kind of golf that will see him pushing for selection in the higher ranks. Harry applied pressure early with his shot making in the conditions to turn 1 up lead after 4 holes into a 5 hole lead at the first turn. Going on to seal a comfortable 6 and 4 victory.
Given the horrible weather the team must be congratulated on their resilience and the way the presented themselves on the day good attitude and sportsmanship in adversity will see them reach their full potential this season.
Thanks to all the parents and to Kade Bryant who offered their fantastic support to the team.
Next Sunday Kooyonga at Grange West.
