Bonnar Boys Bounce Back

Bonnar Boys Bounce Back

Round 3, 26 May

The Bonnar boys ventured to The Vines to take on the home club. It was another cold and wet day and the Glenelg boys needed to maintain their focus and positive mindset to combat the home ground advantage.

Glenelg held the advantage for the majority of the day, but, at one stage, after several heavy showers, there was a suspension of play due to excess water on the greens and it was likely the contest may be abandoned with a tied result. Fortunately the rain cleared and play resumed and Glenelg won the contest 6 games to 1.

At no. 7 Michael Ratajewski was having a tight game – he hit a lot of good shots, but struggled on the tricky greens – all square after 11, his opponent played the steadier golf over the back 9 to win 2 & 1.

Simon Gallie at No. 6 was either 1 up or 2 up for most of the day, holing some nice putts. One up playing the 18th he halved the hole to record a 1 up victory.

At No. 5 Will Starkey was struggling to match his opponent early and was 2 down after 11 – but then won 3 holes in a row to go 1 up after 14 – he maintained that lead to the end winning 1 up. This capped off a great weekend for Will who announced his engagement to his girlfriend April the night before.

Henry Duregon at No. 4 was his usual solid self early and was 3 up after 10 and still 3 up after 13 – but his opponent won 2 holes to reduce the margin to only one the difference after 16 – Henry halved the last 2 holes to be another 1 up winner.

At No.3 David Hiern was up for most of the day taking a 2 up lead after 10 – but his opponent also fought back to square the match after 16. David was still all square playing the last, and a solid par was good enough to win the hole and his game 1 up.

We welcomed back Jackson Kalz to Glenelg Pennant golf (playing his first game since returning from college in the USA) at No.2 – Jacko found himself 2 down early, but recovered to be 1 up after 10 and went on to a solid 3 & 2 win.

Michel Munn at No.1 played solid golf all day – he won 6 and 7 to go 2 up and maintained his good form to record a strong 5 & 4 win.

Thank you to all the caddies and parents who again supported their players through some very wet and difficult conditions – your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Next Sunday we play Regency Park at North Adelaide from 10.30am.
