To assist members in gaining a broad understanding of the ‘New Rules’, each week a ‘snapshot’ covering a particular topic will be published on the website.
This first snapshot covers issues associated with clubs.
Clubs allowed in making a stroke
You should begin a round only with clubs which conform to the requirements of the rules.
However, if you find after beginning the round that you inadvertently are carrying a club which is damaged or does not conform there is no penalty provided you do not use the club. Such a club counts as part of your 14 club entitlement and it would be courteous to advise your playing partners or opponent of the situation.
If you damage your club during the round – either accidentally or deliberately – you may continue to use it and while you may attempt to repair it using only the original components and without delaying play you may not replace it.
However, if another person damages your club you may replace it if it is convenient to do so and does not delay play.
If you have an adjustable club you may not change its characteristics during the round.
