Glenelg kept their unbeaten season in tact with a hard fought 4 – 3 victory over The Vines at Kooyonga. Played in wonderful winter conditions, the “wiz-kids” stood up under the pressure of a close encounter, to ensure the win.
No. 7 – Harry Burner. In a close game through the front 9, Harry won 4 holes in a row to start the back 9 and go on to record a wonderful 5/3 win.
No. 6 – Jack Tanner. Continuing his fine season form, Jack was well in command early, then from a 5 up lead had a small hiccup to lose 3 holes in a row. However a fantastic up and down at 17, saw him close out a 2/1 victory.
No. 5 – Ben Layton. In a very rare off day for Ben, he was in trouble from the outset and although he continued to fight back went down 3/2. This was Ben’s first loss in 3 years of Simpson Cup, so l will forgive him this time.
No. 4 – Jack Buchanan. As he seems to do every week, Jack raced to an early lead winning the first 4 holes. He continued to play solid golf and close out his game 5/4.
No. 3 – Frank Vucic. In what proved to be the deciding game, Frank was locked in a tight tussle all day, before getting out to a 2 up lead after 14, only to have his opponent come back with par and birdie on the next two holes to square it up again. Frank then played two wonderful holes to finish with a very pleasing 2 up victory.
No. 2 – Josh Hayes. Josh also had one of his rare off days to fall behind early and unfortunately couldn’t recover, going on to lose 5/4.
No. 1 – Jackson Kalz. In a high quality game against a very respected opponent, the game seesawed all day with nothing bar 1 hole the difference. Jacko won the 14th to take that 1 up lead again, only to see his opponent finish par, birdie, birdie to take a 2/1 win.
All up a good result against a desperate opponent, this week we take on Royal Adelaide at Tea Tree Gully and we require a victory to ensure a berth in the final.
