2018 Women’s Club Champion – Charley Jacobs
It has been a long and tiresome week due to the inclement weather but on Friday after further showers, wind and some sun the winners of the 2018 Women’s Club Championship were acknowledged.
In the 36-hole Club Championship, 16-year-old Charley Jacobs held on to win her first title, defeating Josie Gale 4/3 after being 5 up early in the first 18 holes. Josie fought back hard to be 2 down at lunch. Both girls experienced a few putting problems but Charley played some good golf to be the winner. The win is a great reward for all Charley’s hard work over the past 12 months including the National 15 & Under Championship and a series of runner up finishes on the national stage and both junior and women’s level. Well done Charley!
The Peg Pank Trophy for the best gross aggregate and leading qualifier on 162 was Charley Jacobs and the best nett aggregate was Cathy Darling on 163.
The B Grade Championship Final was contested by Frances Macpherson and Marg Gordon. Frances won over twenty seven holes 7/6. Unfortunately, after a great win in her semi-final, Marg also experienced putting problems which helped Frances to her victory. The Peg Pank Trophy for the gross aggregate was won by Deb Bennett on 199 and the best nett aggregate was won by Frances Macpherson on 154.
The C Grade was won by Joanne Rice, our up and coming new Try Golfer. Joanne played extremely well against her opponent Heather Whitford who is not a stranger to contesting championship finals. Joanne beat Heather 6/5. The Peg Pank Trophy for the gross aggregate was won by Peg Howard on 226 and the best nett aggregate by Joanne Rice.
I wish to thank the Women’s Sub-Committee for their support during this very full week and also a big thank you to all those who refereed.
A huge thank you to our Golf Operations team for collating of scores and advising who had reached the match play.
Our new Superintendent Tim Warren and his team certainly went above and beyond this week due to the indifferent weather and their efforts are very much appreciated.
I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the in house staff for their commitment and service they provided in support of the Women’s Championships, the Committee of Management for providing the refreshments for the presentations after play and Acting General Manager, Adrian Edgar who attended the presentations.
