Charley Jacobs and Frank Vucic have claimed their respective Club Junior Championship titles last Sunday, 8th October 2017.
Charley Jacobs continued her good form from the State Championship to take out her second consecutive Girls’ Club Junior Championship title with a round of 77. Shakira Kuys was Runner Up in the Girls’ Championship and won the Ella Cole Trophy (Best Net). Glenelg had six girls playing in this year’s Championship, one of the biggest fields in recent times. This is a strong testament to the Club’s junior development program.
Charley Jacobs also won the Anne Smerdon Invitational event, open to all girls under the age of 21, which was played in conjunction with the Girls’ Club Junior Championship. Jin-young Yun (The Grange) was Runner Up with 79 and Shakira Kuys won best net.
Frank Vucic won the Boys’ Club Junior Championship title, defeating defending champion Jackson Kalz in the final. Vucic showed good composure, winning the match on the 19th hole. Earlier in the day, Vucic had defeated Aaron Buchanan in the semi-final on the 20th hole, whilst Kalz had defeated 2015 Club Champion Jack Tanner 2/1.
In the Boys’ Handicap Matchplay Championship, Calvin Perks defeated Mitchell Ward in the 18-hole final 2/1 after overcoming Liam Kennewell in the semi-final that morning, with Ward defeating Luke Sandford to secure his finals berth.
