Congratulations to Matt Sugg and Ben Hallam who have been acknowledged for bringing the Glenelg Golf Club staff culture to life. The KPI’s related to this brand are many and include going the extra mile to make members feel special and welcome at our Club.
Recently, Matt and Ben hopped into the lake next to the 13th green to rescue a members clubs. When it was realised that there were still clubs missing, the boys donned their wetsuits once again to find the remaining clubs.
The member in question has kindly taken the time to reflect on their experience,
“I set off for a few late afternoon holes, a bit windy but fine.
My first outing with my brand new 3 wheel buggy. All went well until the 13th.
I left the buggy at the front of the green, grabbed my putter and proceeded to 3 putt as usual. I turned around to see my buggy, wind assisted, accelerating at a rate that Lewis Hamilton would find acceptable, down the slight slope. Before I could more than gasp, my new buggy reached the bank of the pond and launched itself into the air, landing in the middle and sinking out of sight.
The next morning our greenstaff rescued my equipment short four clubs, still at the bottom of the pond. Several days later the Pro Shop staff handed me my lost clubs. The greenstaff again had entered the deep and icy pond and retrieved my lost clubs.
So three cheers for our great, hard working and resourceful greenstaff.
One disappointment, the clubs work no better for being under water for 24 hours, but the new buggy is working beautifully and I have found the brake.”
We congratulate Matt and Ben on their initiative and hope to see other examples of staff excellence around the Club.
