Kooyonga’s Will Somerfield, and Glenelg’s Elysia Yap & Frank Vucic have claimed this years’ respective Glenelg Vardon trophies played in perfect weather conditions on Sunday.
With rounds of 70, 75, Somerfield finished tied on 145 with last years’ winner Matt Lisk (The Grange). Both players birdied the first playoff hole (18th) and in fading light headed down the 1st. Somerfield again made birdie to win the Brian Ferris Memorial Trophy.
Glenelg’s Jackson Kalz finished third, four shots back on 149, followed by Billy Cawthorne (Royal Adelaide), Jack Thompson (The Grange) and Glenelg’s Henry Duregon who also won best net. It was a day to remember for Duregon on the 11th Hole, he chipped in for birdie in the morning and went one better in the afternoon, holing his tee shot for a hole in one. Great work Henry!
Glenelg players dominated the Women’s Vardon, Elysia Yap won the Waddy & Rundle Trophy by eight shots from Emma Sutton. Tilly Miels, took out the handicap event with a net score of 157 for the 36 holes.
In the Eric Scovell Junior Vardon event, Frank Vucic put aside the disappointment of losing in a playoff last year to win by four shots. Glenelg’s Jack Tanner & Jack Buchanan finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, followed by Grange’s Nick Thompson and Jamie Smith.
