The Women’s A2 team played Kooyonga at Mt Osmond on Sunday, 4th June. We all knew this would be a tough match and we had to remain focused.
It came down to the 18th and the last two players still on the course, Cathy Symons and her opponent, Jodie Pyke, with the whole field following down the fairway.
Cathy had started the day reading the Sunday Mail back page and noting that Don Pyke would be caddying for his wife, Jodie. She was probably nervous but proved her worth, when we had won two matches and lost two matches, she turned her game around and was 1up after the 17th.
They halved the last hole and with that, Glenelg defeated Kooyonga 3 – 2. Fantastic effort and Cathy definitely deserves a “Player of the Match” award.
Shakira-Ann Kuys played Jill Trenordan and after a very nervous start, unfortunately couldn’t match Jill’s experience and lost 4/3.
Sam White played Ann Ewer and tried her best but was 2 down at the turn and lost 3/2.
Louise Pike played Penny Wark and was 4up at the turn. It was apparent that this match was going to be over in the next few holes. Louise won 5/4.
Tilly Miels played Linda Ferris and defeated her 3/2. Tilly played steady and with her father, Mark, as caddy, kept her nose in front all the way.
Thank you again for the caddies and for the families and friends, who transport the country girls, Shakira and Tilly, so that they can play. It is greatly appreciated.
Well done and thank you to all.
