With only 2 rounds remaining, the 2 undefeated teams, Glenelg & Kooyonga, did battle at Flagstaff Hill. A Bonnar Cup Finals spot up for grabs to the winner and it was Glenelg who triumphed with a hard fought 5 to 2 victory.

Kooyonga fielded their strongest side for the year and it was always going to be a tough assignment to win this vital contest.

At No. 7 James Bridgen recovered from 3 down after 6 to get back to square after 12 but his opponent Geordie Golding finished strongly to win 3 & 1.

Ben Winton at No.6 had a tight game all day against Jordan Bishop. The match was all square after 8 holes, but Ben gained the advantage going 2 up after 11 and maintained a 1 or 2 up lead through the second nine, eventually winning his game 1 up.

Harry Burner at No. 5 recovered from losing the first hole against Brett Eadie to go 3 up after 5 holes and maintained that lead through the first 9. Harry maintained his solid form to win his game 4 & 3.

At No. 4 Jack Buchanan was having a strong tussle with Peter Johns. Both lads were playing some great golf. Jack managed to hole a couple of birdie putts to take a 3 up lead after the first 9 and went to 4 up after 14, but Peter fought back to win the next 3 holes to take the game down the 18th which Jack won to win his match 2 up.

Frank Vucic at No.3 was also having a tight tussle with Geoff Brennan. Frank got to 1 up after 5 but lost 2 holes in a row to go 1 down after 7. He then won 3 of the next 4 holes to be 2 up after 11 and was still 1 up playing the last hole which was halved in pars to give Frank a 1 up victory.

Henry Duregon was playing Jason Cocks at No. 2 and what a contrasting game they had. Jason was having tee shot problems early and Henry took advantage shooting out to 4 up after 4. Then Jason got his game together and turned things around to actually go 1 up after 12 holes, but Henry fought back to win the next 4 holes and win 3 & 2.

At No.1 David Hiern was playing against top performer Joel Durnford. Joel took control early to be 2 up after 6 holes, Hierny hung in and matched it with Joel for the next 8 holes, but was still 2 down after 14 and finally succumbed to lose 3 & 2.

The loss for Kooyonga has now opened the door for Grange to play us in the Final in 2 weeks’ time, also at Flagstaff Hill, depending on final outcomes in the last match next Sunday at Tea Tree Gully. As can be seen from the premiership table, it is very tight at the top and it is quite possible that Kooyonga could only lose the one contest all season and still miss the Final! At Tea Tree Gully next Sunday we play Blackwood from 12.10pm as we look to maintain our undefeated season to take winning momentum in to the Final the following week.
