Strong win for Bonnar boys

The Bonnar Cup team took on a very competitive Flagstaff Hill side and performed strongly to record a 6/1 win at Blackwood.

At No. 7 Jack Tanner played par golf and shot out to be 6 up after 8 holes and closed his match out 7 & 6.

James Bridgen at No. 6 played steady early to be 2 up after 6 and increased that to be 4 up after 13 – but then a couple of loose shots opened the door for his opponent but Bridgey held on to record a 3 & 1 win.

Harry Burner at No. 5 had a tight match – all square after 12, he won the 13th and 14th to go 2 up but his opponent maintained the pressure to take the match down the 18th with Harry just 1 up. A lovely pitch to 2 feet secured a win on 18 for Harry and a 2 up game result.

At No. 4, Henry Duregon was steady through the day and just continued to build on his early lead to win his game 4 & 3.

“Giant Killer” Jack Buchanan at No. 3 showed no mercy! He was 5 up after 9 and finished with a birdie blitz to record a big 8 & 6 victory.

David Hiern at No. 2 had the biggest challenge for the day – his opponent played very well and turned 2 up after 9. He continued his steady play and didn’t allow Hierny to get back in to the game to be the sole winner for Flagstaff Hill winning 3 & 2.

Frank Vucic at No. 1 maintained the advantage through most of his game turning 2 up. He increased that lead to 4 up after 13 and went on to record a nice 3 & 2 win.

Thank you to all the caddies and parents for their continued support to the players.

Next Sunday we play The Vines at Royal Adelaide from 11.15am from the 14th tee – another important game where we need to “embrace the challenge” of high expectation and come prepared to play good golf to win.
