Glenelg went down 4 and 3 in the final McMillan Shield game in perfect conditions at The Grange Golf Club. With our 7 players ‘giving’ 68 shots to the Grange 2 team it was always going to be an uphill task to get a win.
Oliver Nalepa (5) continued his excellent form winning 2 up and Josh Grundel (7) showed nerves of steel to win 1 up. Darcy Burns (1) and Calvin Perks (2) both played superbly to half their matches.
Eliza Baker went down 2 and 1 in an enthralling contest whilst Kane Hyams and Jack Ramage both went down 5 and 4 against consistent opponents. Thanks this week to Holly, Hudson, Jade, Noah and Yike for caddying for their teammates.
At the end of the season, Glenelg finished in equal last position having had 1 win, 1 half and 4 losses. When I look at the experience given to the 17 members of Glenelg’s McMillan Shield Squad and the smiles on the player’s faces every week, I have no doubt we have been ‘winners’ in every sense of the word, despite our position on the table. Many of these young golfers are sure to become outstanding long-term pennant representatives for our fantastic club.
It has been a privilege to manage such a happy, positive and dynamic group of young men and women. Thank you to Craig Coleman from The Grange Golf Club for his coordination of the event, Adrian Wickstein for his outstanding assistance throughout the season and to our large contingent of parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters who have supported us.
