Entries are now open for the 2017 Jimmy McLachlan Memorial Trophy, being played on Sunday, 9th April.
The ‘Jimmy Mac’ is a 36 Hole Stroke Play Championship, open to all Full, Provisional, Intermediate and Junior male members of the Club with a G.A. handicap of 6.9 or less (both amateurs and professionals).
The Jimmy McLachlan Memorial Trophy was first played in 1950 and was reintroduced in 2005 after being discontinued in 1988.
The trophy is a memorial to Jimmy McLachlan who was Club Professional between 1929 and 1936 and died on active service with the Australian Imperial Forces whilst a prisoner of war in Burma in 1942.
The event has taken many forms over the years, including being the trophy for the leading qualifier in the Club Championships (now replaced by the RF Stevens Trophy), and also being open to leading amateurs from other clubs in SA. Since 2005, the event has been a 36 hole stroke play event in the lead up to the Pennant season, and in 2010 became an arduous 72 hole stroke play event over one weekend, open to the Club’s leading players, both amateur and professional.
The event returned to a one day, 36 hole event in 2012.
