After an extensive recruitment process, which attracted many quality applicants, Glenelg Golf Club can announce the successful applicant and new General Manager is Mr Ben Kavenagh.
Mr Kavenagh will be joining Glenelg in early May after completing his current placement with the International Cricket Council. He brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in sports administration.
Taking over from outgoing General Manager David Brand, who has helped bring the Club to its current highly ranked and well established position in the industry, Mr Kavenagh will look to continue to enhance the offerings of the Club into the future.
Mr Kavenagh, 42, has spent the last 5 years with cricket’s international federation working with 16 national governing bodies throughout the Americas (North & South America including the Caribbean). A key focus of this role has been the construction of a long-term sustainable structure for cricket in the USA where there has been an influx of international cricket played over the last 18 months.
Prior to this Toronto based ICC role, Kavenagh spent 7 years as head of the South Adelaide Football Club. During his tenure with the Panthers, he oversaw the Club’s return to finals after a 17 year absence, numerous facility improvements and a profitable business model the envy of most rival SANFL clubs.
Prior to that, he worked at Geelong Football Club (AFL) as Membership Manager after heading up basketball club the Geelong Supercats.
A regular golfer off a modest 18 handicap, Kavenagh has been a member of the Camperdown, Midlands (Ballarat) and Torquay Golf Clubs, and has been fortunate to have played many of the world’s great courses during both his business and pleasure related travel.
I believe Kavenagh is an outstanding choice in a very competitive field. He is an experienced leader who has an enviable track record of success; he brings with him a deep and broad understanding of sports administration, member and stakeholder relations, and strategic and commercial management.
We look forward to Ben tackling the opportunities and challenges that confront our Club over the coming years.

Captain
