Glenelg entered a predominately girls team for this week’s encounter against Kooyonga (6 of 7 players). Dubbed ‘Girl Power Sunday’ the team went down 4 and 3 in another enthralling encounter.
Match Results:
1. Shakira-Ann Kuys: 2 up
2. Tilley Miels: 5/3 up
3. Holly Burns: 3/1 down
4. Yike Ma: 2 down
5. Jade Kinita: square
6. Eliza Baker: square
7. Josh Grundel: 4/3 down
Four of the seven matches went down to the 18th, another concluded on the 17th. It was a tight tussle all day.
What was noticeable to all spectators was the high quality of play, the fierce competitive spirit and the sheer joy of playing together as a team and representing Glenelg Golf Club. Thanks to Kane, Marcus, Darcy, Harry M, Oliver, Austin and Noah for their commitment to caddying for their teammates and allowing the players to make their own decisions.
I could not be prouder of the team performance and the conduct of all. There is no doubt that the Club is doing a lot right in attracting so many juniors (including so many girls), flying in the face of state and national trends.
The looks on the faces in the photos taken on ‘Girl Power Sunday’ say it all! Skills developed, great friendships forged and to witness young athletes grateful for the opportunities afforded to them is a pleasure to witness. There is much to look forward to. Watch this space.
