Glenelg Seniors maintained their unbeaten run in Round 6 of the Golf SA Seniors Pennant played at Glenelg last Monday. The 5/2 home victory against Thaxted Park secured top spot in Section A with one minor round still to be played.
Ian Foord at No. 7 played solidly to win 5&4 and get us off to a good start. Mike Dobson at No. 6 had a tight match early to be 1up after 9 but his opponent was too solid on the back 9 to record a 4&2 win for the visitors.
Greg Kendall at No. 5 played consistently for a nice 4&3 win and David Chantrell at No. 4 continued his good season with a tight 1 up victory over Paul Bagshaw.
Chris Whitford at No. 3 played smart golf against a long hitting opponent to win 4&3 and Wayne Humphries capitalized on a couple of lucky shots to win his match 3&2. Anthony Doyle at No. 1 had another tough match against a very solid opponent and lost his match 3&2.
Our last minor round match is against Blackwood to be played at Thaxted Park on Monday, November 14th.
With 6 wins from the 6 Rounds we have secured top spot in our section. The finals format sees the top team from both sections play the second team from the other section in a semi final contest and then the 2 winners play off in the grand final. It is likely that we will face The Grange in the semi final to be played at Mt. Osmond on November 21st. There is still a lot of golf to be played and the challenges just gets bigger.
