Our Sanderson Cup team (Women’s Grade 1) had a difficult assignment this week against defending champions The Grange at Kooyonga, going down 4 games to 1.
Emma Sutton made her A1 debut at number 5 this week against a very experienced opponent. Emma was able to stay with her to be square through 6 holes but minor errors on the next 3 holes saw her 3 down after 9. She steadied but was unable to bridge the gap and went down 4/3.
Sam White, at number 4, had a poor start and was 3 down after 3 holes. Sam got her game back on track but was still 3 down after 9 and 3 down after 14, eventually going down 4/2.
Sarah Crocker, playing this week at number 3, maintained her unbeaten record. She was 3 up after 6 holes. Her opponent pegged her back to +2 after 9 and only +1 after 11 but Sarah rebounded beautifully and closed out her match 4/2.
Jill Hodge, at number 2, had a very closely fought front nine being 1 up after 6 and 1 down after 9. A lapse in the middle saw Jill slip to 3 down after 12 holes. Not one to surrender Jill battled back to be only 1 down after 17. An errant drive found a bunker as did her second shot and despite a great fight back Jill lost 2 down.
Elysia Yap, at number 1 had a mighty battle all day against quality opposition and despite playing good golf was unable to maintain her early lead. She was 1 down after 9 holes and was eventually beaten 3/2.
