Fast start for Sharp Cup team

Glenelg's Sharp Cup Junior Pennant team

Report by Paul Grosvenor
(Team Manager)

The Sharp Cup team (Junior Division 1) played their first round of the season at home against Tea Tree Gully on Sunday, winning 5 – 0. As always the course was presented in excellent condition and there was great feedback from visiting players and clubs.

In a season that only has four matches before the final it was imperative that the team got off to a fast start especially with a home course advantage in the first round.

Harry Edwards playing his first game of Sharp Cup for the Club put in a solid performance at number five and delivered a 5/3 win. Harry’s excellent focus and determination ensured he recorded the win in a great début performance!

Aaron Buchanan returned to his second season of Sharp Cup and played at number four and recorded at 5/4 win. Aaron’s golf was solid all day and his win was well deserved.

Jacob Rillotta playing his second season of Sharp Cup and playing at number three played some exceptional golf, winning his match 5/4. Great work Jacob!

Liam Kennewell a seasoned Bonnar Cup player returning to the Sharp Cup and playing at number two had a disciplined and decisive 8/6 win.

Frank Vucic having played the first two rounds of Bonnar Cup made his first appearance in the Glenelg Sharp Cup team playing at number one, recording an excellent victory winning his match 6/5.

A big thank you to all those who supported the team on the day by giving their time on Sunday. The efforts of the caddies were greatly appreciated by the players, as was the support of the parents and members who came out to watch. Ian Symons thank you for officiating the rules and David Brand for his excellent photography!

Next Sunday the team heads to Tea Tree Gully to play Country Districts, a must win match before the bye round.
